Send settlers on missions

I don't think that this mod idea would be possible without CK, but here's my idea:

There should be a craftable ham radio, which is used actually as a menu with options to send some of your settlers onto 'missions'.

In this menu you can assign settlers into teams. The more people you have on your team, the more chances of success for each 'mission'.

Those missions can be:

1) Scavenging mission. Assigned team goes into the random points of the map for random number of in-game hours, and when they return, they bring some random loot, like fans or duct tapes or other things back home. The more people you dispatch, the more loot they bring back.

2) Outer perimeter patrol. Assigned team goes on a patrol mission somewhere around the territory of settlement; this action temporary boosts settlement's defenses; any spawn points around the settlement are temporarily frozen (for a couple of days), making it safer for everyone to travel. If you send only one or two settlers, they may die in combat (random event).

3) Minutemen missions. Send your team to any radiant quest from minutemen (with a chance to fail based on number of participants).

When they are sent onto missions, you can check the crafted ham radio to see the "progress" and learn when approximately your dispatched team will be back.

In case you send your people to perform a minuteman mission, you can also participate and actually see your men running to the point of mission on the map and dealing with raiders/ghouls in the place of arrival.

In every case of missions they bring some loot with them which is automatically stored in workshop of the settlement.

Well, that's a base idea of what I'd like to see implemented in game, hope to see some feedback and suggestions from the community.

I like it. It makes no sense that your character is the only one venturing outside the settlements and gathering materials and stuff. Others would be inspired to do the same. But you are the of course the general so you would be the one telling them where they should go. Turning this whole quest thing around making you the quest-giver and the settlers the ones doing the standard kill-and-retrieve quests.

Too bad it's only two users who like this idea.

But what if there was an option to at least ask settlers via radio to automatically sweep area for junk when you clear some area, with probabilty to fail/lose scavenger if it is too far from settlement?

Why not let the settlers go off and do the main quest for me? That way I can sit back at my settlement and play videogames as opposed to... well... playing the videogame.

You made me think of a good point. perhaps while the main quest is active there's a modifier that heavily reduces success rate? (because synth infiltrators/brotherhood raids) and include an option to pad the final raid with settler conscripts? at least for the minutemen questline?

I really really like this idea, maybe add a radio beacon for failed scavenger's out in the wasteland? that way if they "get into trouble" you can go help them or even just send more people out to help them and if you don't help them and they don't succeed you can go out into the wasteland yourself to where there beacon was to pick up there loot, own weapons and armor? Maybe have a very small chance of them not even being able to activate the beacon at all and having a small pop up say " you feel your settlers have been gone a little to long..." and go to the place you sent your settlers only to find them all dead with perhaps a deathclaw, or behemoth or a group of a faction currently opposing the minutemen? (E.g. raiders, gunners, brotherhood/institute/railroad if your there enemy) and maybe perhaps if your freindly with another faction you might have slightly better settlers out in the wild.

maybe equiping your settlers with brotherhood distress beacons and power armor, and with the railroad having more "tactical approach to operations" having a better chance of coming back alive with maybe better loot, and the institute could offer the settlers faster travel "with the new reactor powering the teleporter enableing them to allow for easier and more tactical manuverability around the commonwealth as well as perhaps synth/courser body gaurds for your settlers

This idea is brilliant!

I haven't reached the point in Automatron yet where I can verify this, but I read somewhere that you can make eyebots that go out and sweep an area, then report back to you with a location on a map where some items are at.

The reason I mention this is, of course, because it sounds like a great way to set up said missions to send settlers out to run. So, the eyebots go out and scout and then the settler teams go and pick that stuff up. This could also work for some radiant faction quests.

All of my settlers wear Heavy Combat Armor and use: laser weapons and rocket launchers. They should be able to clear out freaking Hubris Comics of a bunch of low level ghouls without me being forced to trudge all over the Commonwealth and do it myself. Oh, and my Provisioners who move between settlements all have Plasma Rifles and Guass Rifles. I've watched one of those guys single handily slaughter an entire Rust Crew encounter by himself. I like the idea of "actually using" this splendid little army that I've created.
