VAULT GIRL MOD DEVELOPMENT THREAD

Heads up, I don't really post in this thread much. I usually post in this other one.

Introduction

This mod is intended to increase the prominence of Vault Girl in the game. This mod replaces textures in the game world and parts of the user interface to feature vault girl. There is already an Alpha version of the mod available for download that I continuously update.

Vault Girl Mod - Alpha 1.9.3 Download (4/18/17)

Change Log

Version 1.9.3

There is now a patch for HUDFramework alone along with HUDFramework with Def_UI

The inventory file is now an optional since some people have had issues with it.

Added 3 status screen head options. One inspired by 2B and the other two are Vault Girl with a Nord helmet.

Fixed a problem where the Blitz perk was showing both Vault Boy and Vault Girl.

There is now a perkchart option with Vault Girl replacing the SPECIAL animations.

Note: The controller buttons are not visible and I've been told there may be some visual glitches. As far as I know these can not be fixed. I've noticed some little things off with two of the SPECIAL animations and I will try to fix them with a future update.

Version 1.9.2

Fixes file link to the Catwoman head option for the status screen.

Adds two new Vault Girl variants of the Big Boss head for the status screen.

Version 1.9.1

Fixed file links for the Full Dialog Default Patch.

Fixed some mismatched options in the Lover's Embrace section.

Version 1.9

New Stats menu options for heads, and a new body.

Two new sets of Vault Girl sign textures.

Two new sets of Vault Girl SPECIAL icons

New Vault Girl options for VATS, INVENTORY, HUDmenu.

Compatibility patches for HUDframework.

A couple of new perks (none of them are very unique, forgot which ones they are).

Several new options for the lovers embrace perk animation.

Other vault girl options for the well rested perk.

I think that's it, just tons of new options, and added new Vault Girls. The file size is bigger now. I removed a lot of work files (like Photoshop files and FLA files) that were unnecessary to make it a more manageable size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do install this thing?!?!?!?!?!

A: If you are having trouble installing. You can install the mod using the Nexus Mod Manager. Go to your mods list and press the green plus symbol to add a new mod from file. Select the zip file you downloaded that has my mod in it and add it to NMM. Then activate it like normal.

Q: You're having trouble with the levelupmenu? Well this guy did it talk to him! http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14252/?

A: I know about that mod and I talked to him during the development of it. The creator of a My Little Pony mod, Lazyradly, has said they will help me with the levelup menu. I DO NOT CURRENTLY PLAN TO DO THE ENTIRE PERK CHART. I currently just plan to do the SPECIAL and maybe the perks that already have Vault Girl on them.

Q: Are you going to make the bobbleheads too? Can you make the statue?!?!?!?!

A: NO! There are already two excellent bobblehead mods available, and you should talk to those modders about it.

Bobble Girl: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8469/? (I reccomend using a vault suit retexture like this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8514/?)

Vault Girl Bobblehead:http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8465/?

Q: Hey is ______ mod compatible?!?!?!? Can you make a patch for it?!?!?!?!?

A: Please check for yourself if mods are compatible, there are thousands of mods on the nexus and some are bound to conflict. If you can't make a patch yourself, it would be greatly appreciated if you asked the author of the other mod if they are okay with people making patches for their mods. Permission is important on the Nexus.

I will add more questions and answers as they are asked or I think of them.

If you want to craft posters from this mod in the workshop, these mods add posters to the workshop:

There is Still Work to Do

So while an icon replacer mod might not seem like that big of a mod, it really is. Just counting perks there are 70 animations, and then another 70 that are colored in the skill tree (don't get me started on that, I have no idea how to edit it yet). There are like 20 variants on the walking animation for the status screen, and then several other random animations scattered throughout the game.

Ways To Help

If someone knows how to edit the perkchart menu and is willing to help let me know!

If someone wants to continue the work on my old Fallout 3 or New Vegas Vault Girl Mods let me know!

How I'm Doing This (and You Can Too)

Well you need to make sure you made it so Fallout 4 mods read loose files (which you probably already did because you're on a modding website).

You're going to need some way to extract files from Fallout 4. I have been using the Bethesda Archive Extractor. There may be other/better ways, let me know! By the way, all the Vault Boy animations from the hud, and pipboy can be found in the interface folder.

To edit these SWF files you will need Adobe Flash (CS6 or something like that) and a flash decompiler. The Flash Decompiler I have been using is called JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler. Though I have heard sothink flash decompiler is good.

You're gonna need decent drawing skills and be willing to figure out how to use flash, but I'm willing to help people out if they want to lend a hand.

I love the idea that you're working on a female counterpart for Female characters. Fallout has always been overly male centric (which makes sense marketing wise).

I was wondering if you were considering doing an equally mixed version for world art while allowing both male and female art be selectable in the pip-boy and perks?

I know thats a long time coming and that this mod is going to take a bit of time to complete. Was just wondering if you had considered an option to allow both. IDK about most gamers, but I tend to switch back and forth between characters frequently and I have one female and one male character almost all the time. I'd love the option to have a switch somewhere or maybe a variable that allows my male character's pip-boy to display male art while my female pip-boy displays female art.

That might be beyond the scope of your mod or intentions. But its always nice to have more choices.

I want this to be possible too, but it is beyond my abilities. If someone figures out how to make all perks and icons variable based on gender, that would be awesome.

Also I may make variations like hair style. Like have one with hair similar to Vanilla Vault Girl, one with this hair, and then one with a pixie cut.

Well, as for world art, material swaps for signs and whatnot would allow multiple versions. But without the creation kit, would wouldn't be able to set which one uses what material swap.

As for the pip-boy, unless the references in the UI can be altered to add a variable (if;then;do) so that it points to different art assets depending on those variables... I have very limited experience with flash so I can't give any advice in terms of its language. But I'm 100% sure variable calls are in the language.

It just comes down to who can do it and how much effort they want to put into making it possible.

I'm not sure how much of the Flash UI can be decompiled and edited. I've scanned a couple of them, and it *looks* like there is enough structure left in the compiled versions to edit links easily enough, but I haven't actually tried editing and recompiling to see if it then actually works.

there's a thread in the ModTalk forum where there is a group trying to do just that though, might want to check that out.
