Also having this issue, tried removing mods that people said could be causing it and de/reactivating the affected NPCs but nothing's worked. It seems very random

I ran into it. It was CCCA and Wearable Backpacks and Bags.

 

However, I fiddled with many different tweaks to load order. With other mods removed, and those two remaining, robots are visible again.

 

I strongly believe it is not related to any one mod, but rather some complication from a keyword/formlist cap.

 

Robots in FO4edit are actually made up of OMOD parts.

 

If you hit the cap, you'll notice menu categories disappearing. Maybe the cap can make something glitch out with robot parts, even though we don't have a crafting menu for them.

 

The mods that this thread seems to focus on are mostly mods that add a lot of their own formlists/keywords -- thus being bigger offenders for pushing folks over the cap edge.

 

--my uninformed theory that i have no solution for.

I recently downloaded the NCR Ranger armor, with armor smith compatibility patch. Now I'm not sure if that is the issue, as I haven't really come across too many aggressive robots. I've been out scrounging in the wilderness for the most part. Because of this, I'm unable to determine exactly at what point the robots began to vanish. To add to this... I'm not incredibly familiar when it comes to the technical jargon revolving around what can actually explain the cause. Wonderful ignorance is wonderful... But yea, what would be the most ideal means of fixing this rather odd issue, as of right now?

Just got hit with this bug myself....it's strange though, because I can see and interact with all robots I placed in my settlements before I experienced the bug, but unable to see/interact with hostile robots as well as not being to place robots at new settlements. This has only happened within the last few days, so if it is a mod conflict, it is probably one that I updated recently.

I haven;'t changed any mod for 3-4 days and the problem started today. First I followed the cat from Vault 81 out, and noticed the caravan guards shooting at the ground. I even grinned that the Mr. Gutsy robot fell through the ground. Then at an later encounter I found out I was attacked by an Assaulttron in which I cannot even shoot back. I was at the mercy of my companions to help me (i got 1 custom compaction, Piper, and a Settler I rescued). Thanks to them that I could survive (or I will just have to keep running). But this is troublesome. Codsworth and the Mr. Handy at Grey Garden are visible. Curie and those hostile robots are invisible. Loading a much earlier save proves to have the same problem (so its not my save that corrupts).

 

Its not invisible, because if it is, my weapons can still hit them (I tried grenade, spam machine guns, light saber, VATs). VATS can lock on them, but presents no part to shoot at. So VATs is helpless in this case.

 

And for interaction, I can still try to aim at Curie direction and interact with her. This is the time I want to turn her into human asap.

I had it happen to me today for the first and only time so far. Kind of blew me away since I could hear whatever robot it was but I couldn't defend myself. Ended up just being killed since I was alone with no companions. I have not added any new mods at all and do not run any of the mods people have been talking about so I'm not sure why I all of a sudden I encountered this. I was messing around with trying to get my sli working so I thought that maybe it was something related to that though I couldn't understand why that would have anything to do it. Guess maybe it was just a coincidence that it happened when it did. The only other thing I could think of was I believe there was a new update to the game released today so maybe it has something to do with that though seeing that other people have been having this problem for awhile now I'm not so sure.
