Mods just won't work for me in Fallout 4

So I'm at the end of my rope with modding Fallout 4. I have tried both using NMM and installing mods manually, but no matter what I do, no matter what mod I use, they simply will not load in the game. I'm sure I've followed all of the instructions on changing the .ini files. When I check plugins.txt in the Fallout 4 folder, the .esm files for my mods are listed there, but they do not show up in my game. The mod I mainly want to use is Robot Home Defence by TheTalkieToaster. Any suggestions on getting mods to work?

*EDIT* As of today, I looked at my plugins.txt file and noticed that the .ems files were absent. I added them back in, reverted the plugins.txt back to Read Only, and loaded up the game. My mods were there and worked beautifully. Thanks everyone who helped out.

Have you edited your Fallout 4 ini files? If not do this:

Go to Users\(your name)\My Documents\My Games\Fallout4.

You will need to add the following line to the Fallout4Prefs.ini file below the section marked [Launcher]:

bEnableFileSelection=1

You will need to change the following line in Fallout4.ini:

sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\

Make sure you follow step by step if it is still not working after, I have a bad news for you. You will most likely need to start your game again. Sorry.

First things first, it appears our fellow nexus user never achieved to make mods work, meaning the save cannot have been corrupted by mods. Starting all over again is likely to provide no benefit at all on this matter.

About the original problem. I now encounter a similar issue, though mods used to work perfectly fine for me until today. What did I change then? Well I did not make any change in my installed mods (that have been running smoothly for several days with any issue), but I did verify game cache integrity with Steam and updated NMM to it latest version. Now almost every mod is broken, doesn't work at all or behave in very odd ways. Reinstalling NMM didn't change anything, reinstalling mods using NMM didn't change anything and even manually reinstalling mods didn't fix the problem. I also tried to check my .ini files, didn't change anything.

I see two possibilities:

- Verifying game cache integrity breaks mods in such way it is impossible to fix.

- NMM update did something that corrupted installed mods.

Anyway, considering I have a similar issue (and yours seems to be happening at the exact same time) I believe it is unrelated to mods and most likely to be out of our hands.

Strange that fix then....especially since you also wrote you tried NMM, who manages that .txt file for you - if you allow it to ( it brings up a popup at startup ) .

This is the guide that worked for me: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation

Weird thing I noted when doing the edits- the .esp's I did have loaded, rather than being in the proper "plugins.txt", had apparently been written instead to the "DLCList.txt" in the same folder. Once I disabled the launcher, no additional mods were written to either file, had to manually add to plugins

You are right, mods have never worked for me. Thanks for the input. I've been looking around online for similar issues and other people believe that the latest update to Fallout 4 breaks mods.
