"The old Fallout 4 ini edits are deprecated..."

I'm getting the message:

[The old Fallout 4 ini edits are deprecated (the long string in the Fallout4.ini caused long loading times). Please remove the old edits and follow this updated guide:]

When I try to install some mods. I've visited the provided link (http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation#Removal_of_loose_files) and I'm still confused as to what to do.

On the page I notice there's a bit that says "Open Fallout4Custom.ini with your favourite text editor. * Note that this file was changed from Fallout4.ini following update 1.2". When I go into the Fallout4 I noticed that is a Fallout4.ini and a Fallout4Custom.ini.

Do I have to combine the Fallout4.ini into Fallout4Custom.ini? Or is something else the issue?

Thanks for any help.

No. Just open the custom .ini and copy/paste in the necessary lines. Save and close, and you're done. The custom .ini overwrites what's in the Fallout4.ini, but without actually overwriting it (if that makes sense; it's like loose files overwriting .bsas, but leaving the .bsas untouched).

Thanks! I think that did it because I'm not getting the message anymore. I haven't fired up the game yet to see if things are effed or not thought lol, but of course I backed up my files just in case.

Possibly stupid question, but what exactly ARE the old edits that I'm supposed to remove? I'm still getting the message occasionally after adding the new line.

I'm not 100% this is right but this is what I think they're talking about...

Go into your regular Fo4 .ini and go down to [archive] (near the bottom)

find the sResourceDataDirsFinal= and delete the whole STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\ afterwards.

I haven't launched the game since getting rid of all that code yet but my pc hasn't exploded yet and ive restarted NMM 3 times without getting the message so those are good signs...

UPDATE: been playing for around an hour now with 0 issues, pretty sure that was the right part

Just make sure to leave the line itself (sResourceDataDirsFinal=) ;)
