Tutorial: Softening Leliana In Your Save Game (In HEX! It's Easy!)

Okay, so I managed to get three of the four strings through, but every time I try to replace the fourth string, it claims that the string is not found.

I used:

FD01163BF71374DBC977FA355D801D7,BOOL,DAO/Class/Rogue? and CE01323A17870C4E95283D747263019A,BOOL,Leliana did not kill agent == TRUE

79CF236575D34940A7CF12865342012E,BOOL,DAO/Romance/Leliana? and DADF5B4FCEAAA749AC724875AFD601D6,BOOL,??? == TRUE

F12631D0508FE54ABA1EB6F3683A01E0,BOOL,DAO/Romance/Alistair? and 0E8105EDBBB9694DBC4A913ADE0301C5,BOOL,??? == FALSE

But everytime I've tried to replace the fourth string, the string isn't found. I've used Morrigan and Zevran, as well as some other strings that were all false, but nothing works.

I was an elven female mage, but I never finished the game/ got very far into it. What do I do?

Sorry friend for taking a hot moment to check this out. I was very ill for a little bit when this came in but I am ship shape now.

I have two questions for you.

1. Are you able to locate these values normally inside the save flag editior? If so they should exist no matter what.

2. Are you going back to the very first character at the very top in the hex editor before performing each string search?

Hi,

I hope you might check this still. I played Dragon Age Inquisition upon release but somehow lost interest halfway through. Trying to play it again, I didn't spend as much time doing side quests and running around trying to finish everything, so I was actually able to stay interested and I'm quite loving it so far. Unfortunately, that meant I somehow missed that conversation with Leliana in Haven and did in fact not talk to her at all in Haven because she's skulking in her tent, so... I'm apparently screwed at this point without your help. It just completely sapped my enjoyment when she suddenly turned into a raving lunatic and slit a defenceless woman's throat (wtf, Leliana??)

I'm impossibly bad at this kind of thing, but I've tried to follow your steps. I've managed to get so far as to use the hex workshop to find, and replace, the strings suggested.

(Those are the ones I THINK I'm supposed to replace - I play as a rogue, and I used to romance Alistair). Mind you, I've never done this sort of thing before, but I found the files after six block shifts, edited them, and then went back six block shifts again and saved as a new file.

However... I can't for the life of me open this file in the save game editor again, so presumably I'm messing up somewhere. I'd really appreciate the help as I'm feeling lost and completely out of my depth here. I've tried it a few times now, and enlisted a friend to help as well, but no luck... and I really don't want a Leliana-shaped monster in my canon save.

[Edit] Never mind :) After some more input from my friend, I realised I'd been answering 'yes' to a question after replacing the strings, and that messed everything up. Now it's working as intended. Thank you SO much for de-freakifying my Leliana.

Hey, thanks for helping out so thoroughly with this!

I'm having an issue in HEX: So I find my first string, which is 45FE541FAFB6B54CA1D6C9143209017E

and I scroll all the way up to the beginning of the file and hit replace. I type in the new value in replace box, which is - CE01323A17870C4E95283D747263019A

and then 2 boxes pop up. One has simply - Replace option in it and another on top of that says - ''The specified search string was not found''.

btw, in the game, I did have the event at the camp where Leliana decides to kill the agent, but I didn't interfere - so it didn't show up in SaveGameEditor search.

I also tried clicking on the very beginning at every search and block shift.

Oh, also! Do I have to search and replace all of the values you suggested? (1 class and 3 romance), or just one and then Block Shift Left ?

Hey guys,

For those of you who realised that sacrificing the Chargers in the base game makes Iron Bull betray you in Trespasser (and for those who didn't realise in playing the base game that the Qun are massive a-holes and now subsequently regret that choice)...here's how you fix it, based on the method described in this post but changing the below plot flags (random FALSE plot flags from DAO - you should check that these are FALSE in your game as well).

Thanks to this post https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/daitools/iron-bull-plot-flags-mild-trespasser-spoilers-t1141.html?sid=538fb6638623e80a5f5ca02786ef9f89#p9652 for helping out with the correct flags.

It WORKED ! :D i noticed in the bottom right corner of HEX interface typo -Cursor 00000 and values changed when I moved cursor (or clicked of course) , so that helped me make sure that the Cursor value was always 00000 before I clicked Ctrl+H to open the Replace window.

As for "The specified search string was not found" error that I got every time I clicked replace, it turns out HEX automatically searched for the old value that was replaced and complained that it was gone :D i made sure of this when I searched for the new value string and found it , so just ignored the error!

If anyone else is wondering about Block Shift, you will only need to Block Shift Right until you find the first value, the rest of them should be in that block. after you replace all 4 values you just Block Shift Left the same amount of times and Save! Thats it! So happy to have Leliana de-lunified and back from the dark side! Thank you ! :D

Look at this cheeky little bugger coming up with something neat to cheat the game ;). I might link this in my reserved second post.

My current play through (Origin, game version 1.0.0.12), I distinctly remembered offering Leliana my sympathies and then stopping her from killing the traitor (the latter happened immediately after I finished the sympathy conversation), but I couldn't find the plot flags in my save game. I decided to do some troubleshooting, so I loaded a save from before the sympathy conversation, then created a new save right after the sympathy conversation, and another new save right after stopping her from killing the traitor.

Using the save editor to compare save files, I found that there are different plot flags being added (the initial "A," before the plot flag ID means "Added"):

Not offering sympathy:

A,F5A6D3E9B5B2D541B440A63D7E6D01E7,TRUE
A,A995B01D49AAD33F8B3595DC6005212A,FALSE

Offering sympathy:

A,8B77DDD3D17D5D439D8E1504E6D6773B,TRUE
A,F5A6D3E9B5B2D541B440A63D7E6D01E7,TRUE
A,A995B01D49AAD33F8B3595DC6005212A,FALSE

Difference for offering sympathy:

A,8B77DDD3D17D5D439D8E1504E6D6773B,TRUE

Telling her to kill the traitor:

A,5A235882025E3C4D84EA686E4AF2013A,TRUE
A,97409E2AC3738648AE7C87FC29600107,TRUE
A,AAFB1EDDA030D84D9744DAB293210147,TRUE
A,F10E489BE6F372479F6CF1B5743CEBF0,TRUE

Stopping her from killing the traitor:

A,5A235882025E3C4D84EA686E4AF2013A,TRUE
A,97409E2AC3738648AE7C87FC29600107,TRUE
A,DADF5B4FCEAAA749AC724875AFD601D6,TRUE

Difference for stopping her from killing the traitor:

A,DADF5B4FCEAAA749AC724875AFD601D6,TRUE

FWIW, both of those plot flags are different that the ones listed in this thread.

FWIW, both of those plot flags are different that the ones listed in this thread.

That could have something to do with the save file structure. It's still not clear what a lot of the flags do, and the file changes a lot between the different milestones. It could be that the flags from the Haven part change for the Skyhold part, I don't know.

What I do know is, the guide works perfectly. Like many others, I also screwed up the Agent dialogue back in Haven (I did the other dialogues right, but apparently that one bad choice screws up everything). I did her personal quest and quite predictably, she went psycho. I didn't wanna restart after a 122 hour game just for this, so I yoinked a save right before I did her quest, followed this guide, and it worked like a charm! This time I could convince her not to kill the spy and she got softened.

One thing to note:

I tried to swap in the "CE01323A17870C4E95283D747263019A,BOOL,Leliana did not kill agent" flag alone, since that was the only part I screwed up, but that alone did not work. I had to swap in all 4 flags for it to work.

Now, this could be because I'm so far into the game that flags got changed around, or maybe the above flag description is actually not true, or maybe the other flags are required no matter what, I cannot know at this point. But if you swap in all 4, you can soften Leliana if it's done on a save before you start her personal quest.
