Can certain skins be used between Fallout 3 and New Vegas?

I hear about how mods cannot be used between Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but what about skins? I was under the impression that skins are only cosmetic and shouldn't affect the base game itself on how it plays.

There are a lot of cool skins/armor from New Vegas I'd like to use in Fallout 3, is it possible?

Thanks yall

Are you asking if it is technically possible or if it is legal?

Generally, meshes and textures port directly between FO3 and FNV. You don't need to do any sort of conversion, other than creating a new mod in the other game to use them. Some of those meshes and textures rely on a particular body type being installed, so you may need to port the body type (skins, meshes, skeletons, maybe animations) over to the other game as well if that body type isn't available in the other game.

Hats and hairs don't copy directly from one game to another. There are some stickies about what you have to do to convert them from one to the other.

Legally, skins and meshes cannot be transferred between games unless the person that created them gives you permission to do so. If it is for your own use, no one will ever know and therefore nobody really cares, but you can't release your own mod using anyone else's skins or meshes for the other game unless you have their permission.
