Flickering Shadows on Walls and Rocks

I'm having shadows on certain surfaces (mostly rocks and walls in exteriors) that will flicker like a strobe light as I move. It seems to depend on the surface and the time of day. Sometimes rock formations will be fine and sometimes all of their shadows will be flickering.

 

None of the fixes I've tried so far have worked. At first I thought maybe it had to do with lanterns of skyrim, so I tried disabling that but no luck. I tried disabling CoT, that didn't fix it either. Most of the threads that I've read on similar issues suggested some ini tweaks and I've tried those as well with no results yet. I'm using realvision enb.

+1 - curious to see if that gets resolved as I have the same problem.

 

From what I can gather it's a result of multiple light sources, so turn off anything that messes with the lights first. Then look at the skyrimprefs.ini options for blurring shadows/changing their draw distance. Finally, an ENB preset can work as a sledgehammer way of hiding this, but you will need some spare horsepower.

The multiple light sources problem is what it sounded like from what I've read. I've tried going without lanterns of skyrim and CoT and removing those didn't help so I'm wondering what other mods are adding light sources to the exteriors.

i fixed my issue. it was mainly the biasScale that was doing it. here is my prefs.ini snippet:

[Display]
//shadows
bDeferredShadows=1
iBlurDeferredShadowMask=7
iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096
iShadowMapResolution=4096
fInteriorShadowDistance=3000.0000
fShadowDistance=8000.0000
iShadowMode=3
fShadowBiasScale=0.3500
iShadowMaskQuarter=4
iShadowFilter=3
bShadowsOnGrass=1
bDrawShadows=1
bTreesReceiveShadows=1
bDrawLandShadows=1

This worked for me! Thanks so much. The flickering is still there but you have to look really close to see it. When playing, it's barely noticeable at all now.

I tried this and now my saves don't work. I'm not saying this doesnt fix it, Im just saying be careful if you try it.
