Hello, my name is Josh and I am a YouTube content creator and have been producing content for about 5 years. I have always wanted to produce a written YouTube machinima series, not the new style of Machinima that's just a fancy news station, the ACTUAL definition of Machinima, but more important to you.. a series about Fallout. However, I am split.

I want to do one in Fallout: New Vegas, but I also really want to do one in Fallout 4. And no, I can't do both. I would be trying to make it a comedy style show but at the same time try to take it serious and try not to lose the Fallout atmosphere. The issue I face is which game to choose. Which one fits a series better? I wanted to ask the people what they would like to see more. Should I spring for Fallout 4? Or would New Vegas be more entertaining? I'm looking for the one with good companions, fun world and quests, a story that would be watchable over the course of multiple seasons, and the one with a more appeal. What do you all think? Which would be better? Any feedback is seriously appreciated.

I won't be doing 3 by the way.

Thank you for your time,

Joshua T.

Hmm, You would probably get more hits from doing fallout 4 videos just because its a more recent title so it has more general interest from the masses. But fallout new vegas is the better game(atleast imo) and the fan base for that game is still pretty healthy and people really care about that game. So much so that people are still making fallout new vegas mods and apparently someone is doing a multiplayer mod for fallout new vegas. Most people also consider fallout new vegas to have better quests, companions and pretty much everything you mentioned in the second paragraph. Ultimately though I think it all boils down to the one that you have the most fun playing and that you enjoy the most.

Well, I think if you're trying to make money off this (as most 'Tubers are), you'd be wise to go with the most current content. I doubt the search inquiries for New Vegas are anywhere near as numerous as FO4 are right now.

Well, it's a matter of personal tastes, I guess. Since you're asking on a FO4 board, though, the sample might not be entirely unbiased.

I also assume it's a matter of tools available, but I haven't actually studied making a movie in either, so no idea.

Personall, I'd say FO4 is newer, looks better and probably more poeople are interested in it at the moment than in NV. So I guess you might have a bigger pool of potential viewers.

As for atmosphere, both fit it well enough. NV is less bombed and more civilized, while Beth's games are IMHO more "back to the roots". The world looks just about like right after Fallout 1. And some of the factions, like the BOS, are back to their roots too -- with a vengeance -- rather than being holed up in a bunker like in NV.

Which did prompt a lot of people to wonder why did they set the game in 2287 and not maybe more like 2187 or something. It's explained in game, though. Lore-wise basically it recently had another collapse into chaos.

As someone who did play since Fallout 1, well, I'd say both FO4 and NV fit the series just fine. Just FO4 seems to be going more for a classic theme, IMHO.

Which is better? Well, whichever works for you. In matters of taste, there's no right or wrong.

I don't even understand what your trying to do. I don't think I would be interested in watching someone else play the game. I watched a build video and shut it off half way through thinking that looks like crap and why are people watching this.

I understand it isn't for everyone, but what I wanna do is make the game feel more like a tv show. Voice over the main character and create episodic stories based on the in-game quests.

You ask about Fallout: my answer: all of them, into one.
It IS one universe, right?

If you'd ask me to pick one fo either TES or Fallout, I'd be stuck too.
But NV is just as Fallout as 4 is.

It just takes place in different parts of the Fallout planet.

But that's how I see it, of course.

Mere a personal PoV...

Well a lot of people were a little frustrated with Fallout 4 not having as much focus on dialogue and character. As much as I love this game, I do feel like I was missing out on some of these aspects. A well written machinima that made the story and character really come to life would probably help satisfy a lot of people and feel like it was filling a gap. I'll watch it if it's Fallout 4 whereas I probably wouldn't watch Fallout NV because that game feels complete to me now.

One counter-point though, you may find FO4 a challenge to work with at the moment, whereas NV is much better documented. However the GECK should be coming out soon and make it all much easier.

I watched a couple of comedy parodies of fallout 4 I found entertaining. If you can put your own content into the game and write well I can see people watching that. Watching someone else do all the same stuff would not appeal to me. Why not make your story episodes as mods for the game that people can download as additional content. I would subscribe to something like that. More episodes of the Silver Shroud would be fun. Going back to your original idea a spinoff series of the Silver Shroud might be something people would watch. "Tune into our next exciting episode"
