Hair Transparency Bug - Nord Hairs and Elf Hairs.

Problem - Hair Transparency issue, need a fix badly.

Note elf hair style also affects other elf races that can use the maine type hairstyle.

 

I have tried most fixes, Fresh installed Skyrim, verified files, tried the nvidea trick of lowering or turning off transparency AA and normal AA to 4x. Sorted with LOOT, uninstalled both hair mods, both with the same issue once uninstalled. Heard about it something to do with Alternative Start mod that glitches out the hair, but no detailed information on that. Im at a loss here :(. Been modding for years and never noticed this bug, now that i have, i want it gone!.

I've seen this issue a lot of times now, as I've been searching around for a similar issue myself (my own problem is that the hair isn't connected with the head, in modded and vanilla Skyrim, no matter what I do, this won't get fixed). So far the people that have asked your question have not received a solution..

I'm using using a few "hairy" mods and the Apachii Hairstyle one shows a transparant edge between hairline and actual head, but it depends from what angle you look. Personally, I never found this to be an issue, so, I've never looked for a solution either...

I created an account just to answer this question because I've also been stuck trying to figure it out. Following instructions from this fixed it for me.

You need to change these settings in your skyrimprefs.ini

 

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=22

iShadowMapResolution=2048 (or higher)

fShadowBiasScale=1

 

The floating hair glitch on the elf and jarl hairs are inherent to vanilla skyrim and not caused by any mods if anybody is wondering. The lighting in the Alternate Start mod jail cell highlights these messed up textures/meshes/whatever, which during normal gameplay only become invisible when a light source is on the other side. The fix listed above changes shadow values so they won't flicker on the broken hair. It doesn't actually change the messed up hair but it allows it to appear 99% normal. When I stood directly on top of a campfire after fixing the shadow values, I checked the hair from every angle and could just barely, barely, tell that the hair had a glitch. You will only see a partial improvement when you load Alternate Start but once you leave that jail cell into normal skyrim its an almost 100% fix.
