Morph file causes crash

Hi everyone,

I got a little problem here with one of my new morphs. I created a new .mop file and enregistered it in the chargenmorphcfg.txt, but every time I try to display the morph in Character Creator, the game crashes.

I used quite a lot of resources for that morph, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I created morphs using resources before, and everything worked fine.

Hope someone's able to help. Thanks in advance.

Heyas Taragor :)

k, first off, it's chargenmorphcfg.xml not .txt I hope that's just a typo that you'd made on the post. The chargen has to be an xml file, not a text file.

the CC is crashing when that one loads because something that is included in the that morph isn't being read by the program. It could be a missing texture, a missing hair file, missing eyeliner or blush, something like that. Double check the resources used in the morph against the resources listed in your chargenmorph xml file to see if you can find the culprit.

Also please note, that when making faces in the toolset, the TS reads directly from the folders that are in your override and addins folders, NOT what is registered with the CC. So, you might have used a resource that is not registered with the chargenmorphcfg.xml file.

Hope this helps, and good luck! :)

Hey :)

You're right, I just made a typo with that txt. So it's because I didn't register the used resources in the chargenmorphcfg? That's strange, I created morphs with unregistered resources before, but it worked fine. Well, I'll just try it and report if that's a solution.

EDIT: Maybe it's because of the eye texture. But how do I register a texture for eyes? The chargenmorphcfg only contains tnt files for eyes.

EDIT 2: Sorry for the double-post.

Well, when you installed the mod that added the textures for those eyes, it should have been in the chargenmorph file that came with the mod. And then you would have needed to update the chargen file when you installed that mod.

Not really sure, so I am just guessing. But I would guess that you'd enter the filenames in the same way as you would for a tint file. But again, I'm just guessing.

No worries about the x2 post, The site's been laggy today. I removed it for ya ;)

I could also try to take a vanilla morph in the CC, register the necessary resources and create the face via CC. The problem is, the eye texture I just registered is recognized, but black, looks like the chargenmorphcfg doesn't seem to accept dds files for eyes.

But there has to be another way... as I said, I used face morph with unregistered features before and it was ok unless I changed the unregistered features (because I can't change it back again).

Ah, and thanks for removing the double-post :)

Heyas Teragor, sorry that it took me so long to get back to you on this. I've been doing some research but haven't come up with anything. I'm gonna try contacting a few of the resident experts and see if maybe I can get some more input on what you might try.

Hi, Taragor.

This error is more common than you might know. It usually happens when the game finds "difficulty" to mix the eye color with the eye texture, that's why using both simply won't work. But, of course, there may be many problems concerning why you can't see the eye textures in the CC.

First of all, you need to see that the "Eye Color" slider must be inactive, like this (http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab128/LSiwora/1-3.png?t=1311343486). It's the most simple solution to make the eye texture work. It (the texture) MUST be in your Override folder. Also, a corrupted archive may cause the same trouble, so maybe downloading the eye textures again would be of some help.

You don't need to write the resources you have in the chargenmorph file, only if they are custom hairstyles or mops and tints. Tattoos, eye textures and skin textures will appear correctly if placed on the right location. Be sure that your packages folder isn't in Program Files/bla bla bla... it's in My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/packages/core/override. There are two override folders in the game, maybe you're using the wrong one.

To help you more, here's a new set of HD eye textures I made. Try using them and see if they work correctly, ok? (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NY9OSIDR)

If you still get the black eye, PM me.

EDIT: I use Windows 7, my folder location may be different from yours. Do a quick search!

@DarkeWolf: Thank you very much for helping me. I really appreciate that, I wish I could give you more kudos than I've already given to you :)

@LSiwora: Thanks, I actually had an active Eye Color slider while using a texture at the same time.

Well, I think I figured out why my morph causes the crash. I first made a test morph that contains all resources I needed, but fixed the problem with the active Eye Color slider (thanks again, LSiwora). It didn't work. So I made a second test morph that only contains the eye texture, and it still crashes. Now I made a third one, containing no resources or changes, a blank morph file, identical to the base. But that one also crashes, so I assume that the problem is my Toolset. I'm reinstalling it right now, maybe it works afterwards.

Taragor

UPDATE: Ok, reinstalled my Toolset now and created a new morph with it, it still won't work. The problem doesn't seem to be one of the resources I use, everything I create on my own via the Toolset causes crashes.

Have you checked the Export Settings tab? Make sure everything is set to 'True'. Also, did you create a module before creating your morph? If so, your custom morphs will only appear ingame if you give them a 'check' in the game load screen, downloadable content. Edited by LSiwora

The export settings of the morphs are all true. Yes, I've already checked them in downloadable content.

Is there any restriction for the names of the morphs? I always name them EF_Name.mop (EF stands for Elf Female)
