Remember Daggerfall?

I have started to play Elderscrolls: Daggerfall and have basically just flat out loved the game. I have never actually played any older games and yet this one is one of the most amazing masterpieces I have ever seen. Other than the wilderness being too empty, I can not see any reason anyone would hate it. Does anyone know anything that you loved about Daggerfall that is or is not in the newer ones?

The complexity of the main quest is a big one for me. they totally dropped this in Oblivion. I also miss the depth and complexity of the lore. the toning down started in Morrowind and has continued through Oblivion. I do miss the more mature goings on. they didn't target this for the "Please think of the children!" crowd, and it shows.

I can tell you what I don't miss: the dungeons. I was SO glad Morrowind simplified them.

Daggerfal has more guilds and more quests. there is the dark brotherhood. the temple quests. fighters, mages and theives guilds, deadric quests. vampire clans. witch covens. 2 cure quests, nobles have quest. inkeepers and merchants have quests, temple specific quests, templar orders. knight orders. quests running in the background. optional quests, then the quests in the main questline. all that makes for 227 quests and around 10 guilds. i also loved there are way more material types in Daggerfall than in any other game i think. leather, chain, plate, dwarven, elven, orcish, deadric, glass, steel, iron, mithril, ebony, adamantium and silver. i think that's all. and the size of othe game world. wow. it's almost impossible to vissit every single location on the huge map. which mean you are always discovering new things. the only thing this game doesn't have is better Graphics. and DaggerXL is fixing that. there are mods to fix all the bugs so there is no reason not to play this game. Beth needs to remake the first 2 games sometime in the future. they deserve it.

Well, never underestimate older games, they might not have nicest graphic sometimes, but especially the RPGs were and are amazing... perhaps more complex, before the "Appeal to the larger customer base" strategy came in.

And it's the complexity that makes Daggerfall worth playing even now, Morrowind and Oblivion (And soon Skyrim) sure are great games, not suggesting otherwise, but they sure miss the spark and depth Daggerfall had.... Very much similar to Baldur's Gate x Dragon age ... even tho that might be a little bit more extreme.

doom on ps1? the pc version to all other version i hear, but i digress.and ps1 is only 2 generations old. i'mmore into the 8 and 16 bit era of gaming, and atari was way before my time but some of the games (like the original Mario Beothers game) are still classics. to this day. the first home console was the Magnavox Oddysey from the early 70's. you can hardly even call it a video game console. AVGN did an episode about so watch his stuff for TRUE old games. but getting back to Daggerfall, it has the largest game map of any game ever made. (to my knowledge) or at least the largest map for any rpg up to that point, the environment me be randomly generated but still. it's epic in scope.. walking from one side of the map to the other would be an adventure in and of itself, and it's dotted with towns homes dungeons and temples. LOTS of them. even if you were only limited to Daggerfall itself it would still be a huge game with so many places to explore. it still blows my mind. the total land mass you can explore is still smaller than cyrodil or morrowind. but the game makes it feel so large. like it's actual size., cyrodil for example feels like a condensed version of the actual land size.i hope you understood what i mean

Daggerfall was marvelous. One of the best RPG ever made, in my opinion. A pity it was not fully finished (item management and furniture, for example). I love Ultima Underworld, too (the second more than the first).
