Fixing the issue with mods being stolen on xbox and possibly PS4 soon

I was looking over all the recent stuff that has been going on with Bethesda.net and people stealing mods and asking for donations, while I think that bringing mods to the consoles are a good thing, the actions of people stealing content is disgusting.

 

I did have a idea on how we all could possibly fix this issue.

 

It goes along the lines of verified content creator, as in, if you want to post content on Bethesda.net, you have to be a verified content creator on nexus, or by proof that you created the mode before it's uploaded to Bethesda.net.

 

As in something along the lines of both Bethesda and Nexus having an authentication system in place to make sure that content is being uploaded either by the creator or with express permission by that creator.

 

I got this idea from remembering when Valve implemented the "You must of spent x amount on steam to use community features" a while back to stop spam bot accounts from being so rampant.

 

So the bottom line is, this saves on the tediousness of constant DMCA claims against users that will just keep making new accounts and gives modders a bit more security in there work.

 

I don't know myself, does anyone think a verification system like this is doable or is this just another pipe dream.

 

Let me know what you guys think.

 

Also, disclosure I'm not modder I just enjoy having the ability to mod my game to enjoy it. : )

The issue is what of mod authors who choose not to/are not allowed to post files on the Nexus for what ever reason?

 

Nexus is probably the biggest mod hosting site but it is far from the only one, from more adult focused sites like Llab to places like Tesalliance or even foreign blog sites like fc2 like many of the Asian modding community seem to prefer.

I guess that's true, but the system I was thinking of didn't have to be direct to nexus, as long as there was some verification process that someone was a mod author and what they were posting is there's.

 

there has to be a simpler way then having to deal with DMCA take downs and people taking there own mods off-line because if someone has a copy of the mod, like pirated content they'll just keep reposting it and sooner or later we might end up seeing game mods on torrent sites...

 

Uuuugh, that just brings a cold shiver down my spine.

Simple, have them only enabled with a console command through ~

So simple.

 

 

This doesn't solve the issue for those who create mesh and texture replacers. It would do more good if bethesda went ahead and built reliable personal info database and force everyone who wants to upload anything to go through checkup. It's as simple as binding your credit card number or Fallout 4 console serial key to account. This way when they caught anyone red-handed they could permamently block them from upload service and give 1 warning before banning the whole account. I'm sure it would scare off potential Robin Hoods, as their stupidity could cost them real money (forcing them to buy new copy of F4 in order to replace banned serial key).
