Installing Skyrim from the DVD

This is one of the reasons I don't use steam. I'm going to be very happy downloading straight from the disk to my C:\ drive.

Yeah you can not do that legally last I herd, all of the games store bought or net bought will force you to bend over and install steam.

If your talking illegally then that is a quick way to get you banned on this site.

Now, now. Let's not jump to conclusions.

In all seriousness though, I think they meant installing it from the disk (while needing steam), rather than downloading all 6.5 GB from Steam.

I for one am glad that I don't need to worry about downloading the entire thing from Steam. My internet connection is crap.

Thats true, nothing like actually using the disc you bought to install the game... what a novel idea game makers. XP

I had to download the whole NV game myself before I figured out it was a error.

Well, wish this trick would work on the copy i have now... but since the previous topic about it got closed, i guess the only way to bypass it is piracy and is not allowed here so... forget i said anything ;-)

It's not meant to bypass the activation, it's just to save people downloading the entire game. Piracy won't help either, the executable will be encrypted and it'll stay that way until release.

hmmm yes, you are probably right :P well that still means getting up at midnight friday then =)

You might as well stay up, I'll be fully loaded with caffeine by the time Steam lets me have what I paid for.

I've never had problems with installing Steam games from the disk...

If I do with Skyrim, I'll probably use offline mode to install it like I did with MW2 (it was buggy even though it still installed from the disk). You register the game on Steam, unplug the cable/disable wi-fi, restart Steam in offline mode, and try to install the game. That should keep it from downloading anything and therefore force it to install from the disk. I don't know if that still works or not, because I haven't messed around with Steam (not even starting it to play New Vegas) since I beat Borderlands last month.

If that doesn't work, I'll use this guide.

really? my steam menu shows no possible interaction with skyrim...

It should be there?

When you click on Skyrim in Steam it should have a preload button.

Maybe if you restart Steam? You've entered your serial code?

Edit: That's preloading through Steam, installing from DVD is only possible after release.
