Most versatile spell EVER! A rune which you can choose the efect

It's concept is very simple: while equipped a different spell on the other hand, this versatile rune will copy its effect and, after casted normally on the ground, will trigger when someone passes over.

->Equip the versatile rune spell and conjure flame atronach in different hands, the rune created by this new spell will conjure this creature when an enemy passes on it.

->Equip the versatile rune spell and fast healing, the rune created by this new spell will heals an ally (or you) when over it.

->Equip the versatile rune spell and calm spell, the rune casted on ground will make the enemy stop fighting when he passes over it.

And so goes on with the other vanilla spells and maybe the ones added by mods too!!! With this mod would be possible to make a mage that plays with traps, extend spell mods and much more!

  • 1 year later...

Sorry for necro this threat, but I was seeking other mods for Rune (character from Thieves Guild) and instead found this...

AND I LOVE IDEA!

The only problem is the fact that then other runes would be much weaker compared to this one, but opens so many new build options.

I wonder how it would work with perks boosting specificaly runes (besides vanila +range buff)? Like Ordinator - introduce actually Stealth Mage archetype with Silent Magic from illusion and damage boosts while sneaking.

That makes all spells wich require two hands uncastable on runes, but I guess thats a part of balance.

Also... How about Runes... of Dragon Shouts?

(here placing spoiler, as it turns out to be very long part of post)

It could be separate spell wich would activate equiped shout on targeted location when someone stand on rune/activate it somehow.

It could be either only Shouts (as they are not only self buffs, but also can be targetable on others) or both Shouts and Powers. Ability to activate Racial Power in rune might not be the most powerfull thing in the world, unless we talk about Orc and Bretons. Those two races have the most powerfull Racial Powers in game (and are also the most versatile). The rest are preety focused on specific playstyle or are to weak:

- Both Nords and Imperials powers are based on level. Weaker enemies will be affected, but stronger ones would just stomp on them and be okay. Still one of better effect we can give after Orcs and Bretons (half damage taken from all sorces and double damage, as well as 50% chance for absorbtion are preety good on it's own and are worth to activate).

- Argonians, High Elves and Redguards give self-buffs wich regenerate our stats. If Rune activate power on us then... I guess thats better? But then again two powers are really depending on playstyle (one purely mage, other one for warriors and archers), and first one works especialy well in mid battle when we took some damage, but we have oportunity to heal wihout risking taking damage. It's harder to cast rune in battle really, as we would need to cast it directly under us.

If those powers activate on targets instead then preparing those runes would work only if we are expecting enemies charging on us (wich is not always the case - random encounters, travels, exploring other structures than Draugrs ruins, where we can't prepare runes), so we can cast it safely somewhere where we then activate it ourselfs.

- Dark Elves - similar to last point - is self buff, but actually suports more playstyles more or less. However it's effect can be replaced by simple cloak, and also there are problem on who does it activate or how it behave at all as rune effect.

It could create small blizzard effect, but made out of fire, or give Fire Cloak and be a bit worst in most cases.

- Wood Elves - too specific, as it works only on animals. NEXT

- Khajits - so... we make ourself blind whenever someone activate rune, or it does nothing as enemies just gain night vision?

There are however other, better powers we could gain in game. From Stones, other guilds...

But... Let's explore for a bit Shouts again. They seems to have much more variety in effects and are easier to get really:

- There are those elemental shouts wich deal fire and frost damage. Preety much strong enouth spell could replace it and we also don't have Electric shouts besides...

- Casting Weather - wich IS powerfull tho. Works only outside, but it's actually really good if we are alone (overwise it also damages our followers)

- Summoning dragon to help us is - again - extremly powerfull. We get that shout after centrain quest tho in main storyline, so it is okay, I guess to be quite powerfull?

And let's not forget it's not instant. Every other summon from conjuration school would be instant and get attention of enemies, while dragon need to fly here first (as we call him, not summon like other monsters). Yeah it's just like two-three seconds, but still worth noting.

Imagine stacking two runes one on another, one with dragon, and other with something to buy time... might be fun.

- Unrenting Force - Good meme I guess? But not only that...

This is powerfull effect to buy some time AND maybe to get rid of enemies in comedy style. If well placed, you can kill enemy preety quickly just by throwing him out of mountain/cliff/wall...

OR just let him know you don't want him to be close to you... I guess he will understand...

- Mark of the Death could work for nearly every playstyle based on dealing damage... so nearly EVERY playstyle.

Even the one focused on illusion and aggresion between enemies, so they would fight each other. They deal to each other damage after all.

- Ice Form - ultimate time buying shout. It's like paralysing oponent, but it ends faster if we deal damage to enemy. As a trap it would be wonderfull.

Imagine stealth ice mage who uses this rune to cover their back... Sounds really good to me.

It is just a bit worst than Paralyse, but you can use it propably faster if you find quickly words for that shout, and doesn't require you to learn Alteration to expert level.

- Slow Time - I wonder how that would work...

Actually you know what? THIS would buy us much more time than temporary paralyse freeze. You also could while in slow time stage, use another shout preety effectivly. Heck, even place another rune reliably too.

- Buff based shouts - well... here is a bit worst. If it buff us, then sure - faster swings with our weapon for example is actually powerfull. Shorter colldown on shouts would be nice too.

But if it buffs targets...

Unless you want a chalenge and buff with it enemy, then it's quite terrible.

You could on the other hand buffs your follower... thats something... I guess?

I hope someone make that mod, as it opens up SO MANY ideas for builds around runes.
