Custom Mesh Problems - Purple, Black, Invisible, or Big Red Exclamation Mark!

(Also posted in Fallout 4 Technical Support for a wider audience, not many know about the problem or the process.)

Okay, so I have an issue.

First, I'd like to say that I've been using NifSkope and FO4Edit for 8 months, now, and I know what I'm doing with both.

(NifSkope is ((at least somewhat)) relevant to this issue, however, xEdit/FO4Edit is not.)

I've been trying to get a custom mesh in-game for about a week now.

(By the way, this is going to be a constructable mesh

I can create the mesh, give it a material and collision, export it, run it through Elrich, replace the BSLightingShaderProperty with one from a vanilla .nif, and that's where the fun stops.

No matter what I do, I get either a black mesh, a purple mesh, an invisible mesh, or a large red exclamation mark.

No matter what, I cannot get the mesh to show up with the correct material and textures.

I believe it has something to do with Vertex information, possibly in the BSTriShape block, itself.

I've got 3ds Max 2013, the BGS exporter, and Elrich. The only tools you need (as far as I can tell).

I've done nothing incorrectly, followed multiple tutorials to a tee, even got additional help -- no luck.

I need help figuring this out. I've been it at for a week, and nothing I've done helps.. It's driving me to madness, I tell you!

I can post any additional info needed, any pictures, et cetera, just let me know if there's anything you want to know.

If anyone has any ideas, please, throw them my way. I'm doing everything possible to get this working.

Thank you! I really want to get this worked out..!

(Any suggestions/ideas/etc *at all, whatsoever,* will be appreciated GREATLY!)

My other topic was made invisible, apparently because I made two similar topics.

I kind of needed them both to get it to as many people as possible; it's not a widely known issue (obviously, otherwise I'd have it solved).

Could you post the file so I could have a look at it?

Yessir! I have it already uploaded just in case.

It also comes with a plugin (to craft it in game), but you must manually extract/install it, and have the Contraptions DLC to use it.

(Or you could change the keywords for the COBJ.)

(Unless you only want to look at the .nif, of course)

http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=33124394942298051772

(In the crafting menu, it's under Power > Manufacturing > Miscellaneous, and it's at the far right, if you decide to check it out in-game.)

Thanks for taking a look, man. I appreciate it.

Purple mesh indicates a missing texture, so check your file paths, it's very easy to make a small typo. Black mesh could be either flipped normals or black vertices, nifskope can fix both but depending on how many vertices you have it can be daunting to fix. An invisible mesh can be quite a few things, one of them being transparent vertices, which you can fix the same way you would black vertices. Otherwise, I'm not sure what can cause your problems without looking at your files.

I've uploaded a .nif and a plugin (if you want to test in-game), if you'd like to look at the .nif, at least.

I feel like it's a problem with 3ds Max, the BGS exporter, or the Elrich converter.

(By the way, the file paths are absolutely spot on; it can't be that. I'm using vanilla material files/.BGMS', and vanilla textures.

But, I have checked and made sure, ((I've been doing it everyday for a week, really, lol)) so I don't really know what to do, now.)

I can make a clean mesh in 3ds Max, export it, convert it, and it always ends up being black, purple, or invisible.

If I clear the Alpha Vertex data in 3ds Max (in channel info), it ends up as a big red exclamation mark.

If I clear the Alpha Color data in 3ds Max (again, in channel info), it ends up being purple.

If I clear both, it's the big red exclamation mark.

If I just export it without clearing any Vertex data (clearing it was suggested by the maker of a tutorial, by the way), it turns out black.

If I use the converted mesh's original BSLightingShaderEffect (material), it's invisible. (Or I've got the black and invisible mixed up..)

Maybe that information will help a bit to pinpoint the problem..

But it still doesn't make sense; I've done everything exactly the way it should be done.

That's why I'm so confused, and quite desperate to get this figured out. I don't want to just.. give up. I want to mod.

I mean, I already do mod, but this whole mesh thing has been a mess for me since I first started, over a week ago.

Thank you for your reply, though, I will keep looking into it!

Well, I've got the problem half-fixed. I can get a material and textures on it, but they don't display correctly.

It gives me some shade of grey, like steel, but that's it, no matter what.

The thing is, if I take collision out of the equation, the material and textures are displayed correctly, but without collision, of course.

Small textures, say, that of the fusion core, display correctly, but in the way that a misplaced material does, obviously, so they're not usable.
None of the materials that would look right will work. That's the problem.. It's very odd, as always with this.. "issue".
