Missing Navmeshes and Crashes - Probably easy for experienced modders!

I haven't modded an Elder Scrolls game in a few years, and I know how involving it can be. I have around 80 mods in my game, with most of them off of the Nexus, and the rest from the workshop.

So it seems several mods, including DLCs like Dawnguard are missing navmeshes. This would have to be because of mods overwriting meshes with a popup when I install them off of the Nexus Mod Manager. I'm getting constant crashes to the desktop every 5-10 minutes of play, and I assume it is because of the missing meshes.

I have had the NMM set the load order, and that has done nothing. I've tried my best to make sure ever plugin has a patch if there is one, and is compatible with each other. Wyre bash is telling me that about five mods are missing meshes, and that many meshes in them have been deleted.

When a new mod is installed, and it asks if I want to overwrite existing meshes, should I not say yes and that this should work fine? I am quite confused and just want to get the game working after several long days of doing everything I can think of.

At this point, I am thinking I should delete everything and re-install it all one at a time to see if it will work correctly. I am still confused on the overwriting of the mesh thing though, because I figure that I will just run into the same issue again if I re-install it all one at a time.

Help would be great on this issue!

For one thing, navmeshes and meshes aren't the same thing. In a nutshell, navmeshes are used for pathfinding and meshes are 3D models.

In general, it's not a good idea to mix Steam Workshop mods with NMM. It can be done, but you have to be very careful or you get the kind of problems like the ones you are experiencing. Missing meshes typically occur because of mods that you've uninstalled.

Separate mods can modify the same file, and they can be modified differently. For instance, SMIM may modify a barrel to make it look better, but Animated Clutter may replace the barrel with a completely different model. It's up to you to decide what to overwrite. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but sometimes it might be important. You might ask for help from the various mod main pages on Nexus.

NMM keeps track of what files are overwritten, and attempts to restore them as appropriate. In my previous example, let's say you installed Animated Clutter with NMM after SMIM and overwrote the files. If you later uninstall Animated Clutter, then it would restore the files from SMIM. However, if you try to uninstall a Steam Workshop mod instead, then it would simply delete them. NMM wouldn't know this and the files would be missing. If you know what files are missing and where they come from, then you can reinstall those mods in order to repair them.

I don't use Wrye Bash, but if it's telling you that 5 mods are missing several meshes, then the first thing to try is to reinstall those 5 mods. If that doesn't work, then it may be time to start over.

Thanks for the information. I'll be doing a re-install of the game and using the STEP guide to go about it this time. Another issue that I had was that there was a mod that had a steam error 15 off the workshop that I deleted. It was something from a long time ago and I don't even remember what it was. This was right after a fresh install, and before I started adding new mods to the game. Everytime Steam checked the validity of the mods, it always gave an error for that missing mod. This may have been the issue all along.
