Simple Dual Wielding and torches

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to use Simple Dual Wielding by opaj and noticed it doesn't unequip torches. I haven't tested yet to see if it properly unequips defensive offhand items added by mods and such, but it does unequip shields. No matter what though if I'm using Simple Dual Wielding and equip an offhand weapon while I have a torch equipped I will visually be holding both a weapon and the torch in my left hand. I could manually just force myself to unequip my torch anytime I unsheathe my weapons; but while also being annoying this would mean I couldn't drop lit torches in combat, which with as dark as my dungeons are can be a necessity depending on character build.

I've tried, and am still trying to take a look at the mod in tes4edit, but I really don't know what I'm doing. I'm hoping some wonderful samaritan would be able to take a look at the mod and see if they might be able to fix this issue. For any concerns of rights opaj does give permission for anyone to pick up where he left off on the mod. From the end of his description here on the nexus "Well, Skyrim's out, and I doubt I'll ever find time to mod for Oblivion again. I don't see any reason to just sit on this mod, so here it goes. If you want to finish the work I started, go ahead. No permission is necessary. Just let me know so that I can add a forwarding link to your new and improved version."

Hopefully someone is interested, and thank you regardless.

I don't understand, http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/43079/

That mod is pretty much good enough to me

he stated : " It's not feature complete yet (I was going to add hotkeys for dual wielding and off-hand poisoning), so I never got around to releasing it. "

it's just minor feature

so what do mean about continuing the project ? I think there's several mods that support dual wield other than this

such as Oblivion Reloaded 4, Unnecessary Violence, Deadly Reflex, and maybe more....

Largely I agree, the mod is good enough; but there is the issue with torches I am experiencing that brought me here in the first place...Another user on the bethsoft thread noticed that if you equip an offhand weapon while riding a horse it will continuously duplicate itself until you get off the horse. I haven't tested that one myself but I have had the mod result in a glitch that duplicated a particular item every time I equipped it to my offhand. Apparently also if you have two weapons equipped and a remove items script occurs it results in a ctd. I don't know how feasible these would necessarily be to fix, but they are issues that are currently present.

Along the line of features that could be added would be extending dual wield capability to NPC's. The mod also allows the ability to wield a two-handed weapon with another weapon if you are strong enough, expanding this so that you could also wield a two-handed weapon and a shield instead would be nice.

Oblivion Reloaded's dual wield system has been shaky for me at best so far. When it was first introduced it caused ctd's almost instantly. Now it has exaggerated animations added in, and while it seems to work okay if I remove the animations (so long as I don't attack with the offhand which is fine for me) I've experienced a game breaking bug using it. Eventually when I would load a save that had been made while using dual wield, my character would be glitched. The sword that should be sheathed on my back would be stabbing through my hip, and when I would draw my weapon it would be stuck in my arm. Trying to unequip the offhand weapon resulted in nothing and unequipping the main hand resulted in a ctd. Personally I also like the way dual wield in SDW is handled in comparison. Since I wouldn't be using the animations and attacking with it, the second weapon essentially just becomes a shield in Oblivion Reloaded. With SDW you don't gain a shield and instead get some additional perks allowing for a little more variety in combat; weapon/shield for better defense or weapon/weapon for an onslaught or more agile character that may not get hit.

Unnecessary Violence is my other option currently. It has it's own suite of issues though and it's extremely overfeatured for my taste, even including an underwater Warriors Guild near the imperial city that I haven't checked yet but I assume will cause landscape issues in a game with Better Imperial City, UL Imperial Isle, and Verona House all conflicting in the same area. I also still prefer the dual wield system in SDW for my use. Ultimately though, there is enough in UV that interests me that it may still end up being what I use; but even if it is, I believe SDW deserves to have it's few kinks worked out.

Deadly Reflex doesn't feature dual wield to my knowledge.

Strangely in my testing tonight I have found that I can get Simple Dual Wielding to work with torches....kind of. I start a new game and it doesn't work. I save and load that game and it still doesn't work. If I equip two weapons and save then load that save game it works, but if I make another save without two weapons equipped it won't work on load again. For some reason torches only work as they should if it's in a game that had been saved with two weapons equipped. I don't even begin to understand what would cause it to function like that.

Thanks, I haven't gotten a chance to really get around to playing with it again, and so I also haven't had time to truly try out your mode yet either.

If you would kindly, I started another thread asking for help with some adjustments I'm trying to make to SM Plugin Refurbish, perhaps you could be of assistance there :D https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4667770-attempting-adjumsents-to-sm-plugin-refurbish/
