Skyrim: CTD when attempting to fast travel

Well, since I can't find the answer to my problem anywhere online, I thought I'd give making a post a try. Anyways, I've recently come across a problem where whenever I try to fast travel my game crashes to desktop. It began after I reinstalled Cloaks of Skyrim and Complete Crafting Overhaul in order to install the compatibility patch for them to work together. I've since reverted my mods back to the way they were, re-sorted my load order with LOOT, and cleaned my save file. I should also note that it's only when I fast travel that the CTD occurs, other load screens and using coc to get around don't cause me to crash. Papyrus logs haven't helped much, either, as there's no pattern in the scripts being run at the end when it crashes. I'd very much appreciate any advice anyone's willing to provide on the situation. Thanks.

Hello,

Here is a list of things that may help stabilizing your game :

/// Load order / mods conflicts :

/// Cleaning and correcting potential bugs :

  • Clean your master files to eliminate potential problems : Gopher's videos cleaning your masterfiles on the Nexus Tesedit page.
    Start Tes5edit, simply untick everything, (right-click/select none) and add only a tick to the esm/esp you want to check + update.esm, Tesedit knows what to do and will load all the dependencies automatically.
    - Begin with loading only Skyrim + update, ITM / UDR + save ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Dawnguard, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Hearthfire, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Dragonborn, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
  • The method above can be used to clean mods. LOOT should tell you which plugin you should clean. You may also do a check erros on your plugins.

/// Settings / memory :

  • Have you installed the skse patch ? >> memory blocks log.
  • Backup your ini files and delete the files. Skyrim.ini / SkyrimCustom.ini / SkyrimPrefs.ini found in C:\Users\Utilisateur\Documents\My Games\Skyrim then use your vanilla launcher to autodetect and use best settings for your computer.

/// Save game :

/// Meshes healer :

  • Read here, this is potentially a cause of CTD that you can resolve by following the mod procedure on this page.

/// Useful informations :

Hope this helps.

  • 4 years later...

I THINK i've found a potential solution - Double check that your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini in your Documents folder weren't set back to defaults of locked vSync & Frame Rates. Something (Vortex, FNIS, who knows) was removing the lines needed to unlock my frame rate. I added them back and the CTD on travel or entering / exiting buildings stopped.

I followed this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/5r6qoo/how_to_play_skyrim_special_edition_at_144_fps/

  • SkyrimPrefs.ini, under [Display], set iVSyncPresentInterval=0
  • In Skyrim.ini, under [Display], Add bLockFramerate=0
  • add to the bottom of Skyrim.ini:
    [HAVOK]
    fMaxTime=0.0069

I edited my "baked" ini's also. Hope this solution holds for me and provides some help to others.
