Oblivion.ini doesnt save any settings made ingame...

Hello.

I modded Oblivion recently and for some reason the Oblivion.ini doesnt take any ingame settings into account.

It doesnt even seem to write anything into the ini at all. Fastexit does not fix this, also I changed the read only setting of the ini.

And also I tried using the console command saveini. NONE of those work. Don't ask me why. I really don't get it.

However, what does actually help is editing the ini manually... It also keeps the settings then. So I guess the game simply cannot edit or modify the Oblivion.ini for some reason...

Therefore I tried to launch the game with administrator rights. No change.

Here some info that might be relevant for you.

- It is the Steam Goty version

- I use OBSE, Oblivion Reloaded, Stutter Remover (Those are at least the mods that might have something to do with it...)

Hope somebody knows why and can help me... I am getting crazy. I guess as last resort I can edit the ini manually but I dont know all settings and their corresponding ini lines...

Hello,

Oblivion Reloaded has a SaveSettings parameter in its ini file ( in Data\OBSE\plugins\OblivionReloaded.ini ),

maybe this parameter is the cause of your problem ?

From the readme file:

  • SaveSettings = 1
    Enables/disables to save the Oblivion.ini settings. 0=Settings are not saved; 1=Settings are saved (vanilla).
    Setting it to 0 prevents Oblivion to save the Oblivion.ini values.

Thank you for this. Actually it was set to 0.

I changed it to 1 but the issue remains. Even with using the saveini command.

The game simply doesnt seem to be able to modify the Oblivion.ini whatsoever...

I really dont get it. The Oblivion Launcher and manual editing of the file works but trying it ingame, NO DICE.

Ok ... I know it is not convenient but you can do everything (and more) by changing directly the ini file. For instance, for the sound it is:

fDefaultEffectsVolume=0.6000
fDefaultMusicVolume=0.3000
fDefaultFootVolume=1.0000
fDefaultVoiceVolume=0.7000
fDefaultMasterVolume=0.6000

I fixed the problem actually. I just deleted the Oblivion.ini and created a new one... Odd fix but oh well. Does the job.

I have another problem now though.

My 1st person camera is kind of eh, bugged? It doesnt show the weapon in 1st person and the camera is somewhere else placed on my body. oO

Maybe a mod?

I use those mods right now, not many at all, wanna play as vanilla as possible.

Unofficial Patches, Oblivion Reloaded, Stutter Remover, DarkDarnUI, Character Overhaul v2 + blockhead.

Oh thanks. That did the trick. Now everything seems to work as it should. Thanks a lot.

I also had another problem. My weapon was slightly transparent (lol), I fixed it with disabling Ambient Occlusion in the shader options of Oblivion Reloaded.

Guess everything works according plan now. Thanks. Cant await playing this game properly finally.

Years ago when I played this game my game bugged out. Something about a savegame trashing problem with Shivering Isles addon... Man was I pissed.

I just threw the game into the trash after this.

Also I remember the heads and faces to be abominations haha. This character overhaul seems to fix this. Looks a lot better now.

Maybe this time I dont run into such problems...

Yes, transparent weapons is an issue you can have when using OR or ENB Ambient Occlusion ...

You are welcome. Concerning savegames, the good practice is to create a new save (without overwriting old saves) each time you want to save. Do not use quicksaves. This can help to prevent some crashes later in the game.
