I've searched high and low to find any sort of tutorial/instructions for creating a custom character preset for Fallout 4 (without relying on saved games), but have been unsuccessful in locating any sort of information on accomplishing this, beyond using the Face Ripper mod, which from what I understand hasn't been updated in quite a while, and has numerous bugs.

In Skyrim this process was rather simple, and allowed one to create a custom .ESP file containing whatever new presets one had been able to make with the in game character creation. (https://levelskip.com/rpgs/tut_charplugins)

Is there a similar process for Fallout 4?

The presets that are available are simple npcs, you can easily change their appearance by copying their records to an esp and using face ripper to rip from a save to your esp. Adding new presets would require editing the race records, which I would advise against because it would cause compatibility issues. I haven't used the CK in a while, but if they fixed the face editor in there you can also use that to edit those preset npcs.

It's very simple if I remember correctly, go to your custom NPC in the CK and check the "Is CharGen Face Preset" option. This makes that NPC's face a preset which you can select when you're making or editing your character. The vanilla faces are done like this.

Is there any console command to create an NPC like in the Skyrim method? Or would Face Ripper be the only way? Also would Face Ripper copy body shape as well, or just the face? (I can't seem to find any info regarding the body in anything I'm reading on Face Ripper)

I believe Face Ripper copies the body weight as well. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "create an NPC", I didn't mod Skyrim, but if you did that wouldn't that NPC only exist in your save file, with no way to copy it to an esp except with Face Ripper?

With Skyrim the way it's done is you use a console command to create an NPC file on your computer that is a duplicate of your player character, and then from there you'd import it/them into the Creation Kit, and make them into character creation presets, and save it as an ESP file. (See: https://levelskip.com/rpgs/tut_charplugins) I was hoping it would be similar for Fallout 4, but I haven't been able to find any sort of similar command.

Oh, I see. I don't think you can do that with FO4, because so much stuff, including CC presets, are embedded into the race record. The current easiest ways to make your CC presets available are using Face Ripper to rip your character's face from your save onto an override of the current preset NPCs (conveniently named presetfemale1>20 and presetmale1>20), or make presets for LooksMenu.

Might anyone be able to explain or point me to a how to or video of how to put my characters face into the list of presets in the creation kit?

Do I take the save file and put it elsewhere?

Edit:

I just re-read face ripper nexus page again and see how it's done there lol
