Also there is a console command that will unlock the Institute Paint job whenever you want it. I am not sure exactly what it is but I have used it for a mod that replaced the Institute Paint and you needed to unlock it early.

 

Search some of the other PA paint jobs and you will see in the description the command to unlock it from day one.

It turns out there is a console command for unlocking the Institute paint before completing Nuclear Family.

set PA_Global_Material_Institute to 1

It also works with a few other combinations.

set PA_Global_Material_Railroad to 1
set PA_Global_Material_Minuteman to 1
set PA_Global_Material_AtomCat to 1
set PA_Global_Material_BOSPaintJobSentinel to 1
set PA_Global_Material_BOSPaintJobPaladin to 1
set PA_Global_Material_BOSPaintJobKnight to 1

I imagine it might work with the other mom-obtainable BOS paints as well, like Initiate, Knigjt-Seargent, Knight-Captain, Elder, etc.

NP. That was the idea.

As for the BOS paints, actually while you CAN get the paints one way or another (amod, if all else failed), be advised that only the normally non-available ones have no stats. They're literally just paint. So basically if you give yourself a Paladin paint instead of the Knight one, well, you just lost the bonus. I tried it.
