Skyrim SE V Skyrim Legendary Edition

OK so I'm looking for opinions and USEFUL help here. Thank you in advance to all who respond.

I have the legendary edition and I also have it registered on steam. Because of this I have the option to upgrade to SE.

I've modded my game up something awful so it looks amazing (although it does crash quite a bit and I haven't worked out why).

System I'm running is as follows:

Windows 10

16gb RAM

Intel Core i5 4460 CPU running at 3.2ghz

Nvidia GeForce GT 740 graphics card 2gb

My questions are this: Does Skyrim SE live up to the hype? Is it worth me upgrading? Will my rig handle the graphics and such?

keep in mind that a good majority of the mods aren't avaliable in the special edition right now, so you might have to sacrafice some of your favorite mods, do a bit of research on the mods that are avaliable, that should help with your decision.

It's a 60/40 crap shoot whether it's worth it or not, based entirely upon your hardware, your dependence on mods and, frankly, blind luck.

There are people with modern hardware who are unable to get more than 10 fps out the SSE on the lowest settings. Meanwhile, there are people getting 60+ fps on ultra setting who are almost literally playing on potatoes.

You're going to have to keep in mind that there WILL be mods that will never be ported to the SSE. You're also going to have to keep in mind that mod authors will gradually stop developing or updating mods for the original version of the game.

My personal experience and opinion (which certainly doesn't speak for everyone) is that not only does the SSE run and perform worse than the original game (for me), but it is going to fracture and divide the community into two camps (Oldrim vs Newrim), which is the last thing a community that very nearly didn't survive the controversy of paid mods needs at this stage. I view the SSE as a blatant cash grab, blindly latched onto by bored mod authors and users in a bid to rekindle the excitement of the early days of Skyrim modding. But when 4 out of 10 Skyrim players can't even run the SSE smoothly....I just don't think that's how it's going to be. People aren't going to run out and buy new hardware in order to play a five year-old game they've been playing just fine til now....hardware that may or may not even make a difference. I view the SSE as a boon for consolers, but as a living nightmare for PC users (exaggeration, but only slightly).

Some view the SSE as moving forward. I view it as a giant leap backwards. After all, when I try to play the SSE with all the settings on low at a steady 22 fps, I feel like it's 2005 all over again.

I will echo what the poster above, phantompally, said. Pretty much covers my thoughts.

I guess I'm one of those potato users who runs Oldrim far better than I should.. who can't even get to full log screen on SSE.

My SSE game runs flawlessly and looks terrific... as terrific as a 5 year old game can look when you add enb effects but keep the same textures. Most of the textures look the same to me, but that's why we have texture overhauls I guess. By itself vanilla Special Edition is much, much better than vanilla Legendary Edition though, unmodded vs unmodded. Once we get all the major mods it will be better in general, no question. That will take some time however. Right now, if we are just comparing unmodded games, then SSE looks nicer, runs faster, is a lot more stable, and has way more potential for modding than SLE. Your mileage may vary but I have no complaints so far.

I can run it on Ultra and have no issues with frame rate however, it is in development meaning it needs work lots of it. Out of the box it looks no different than 32 bit skyrim for me the base game is now 64 bit so it is suppose to be better I will wait for now as I see no real need to change over as the mods I like are not ported over and not sure when or if they will be. Don't expect it to be something it is not and you will be just fine.
