Freeze and subsequent CTD at Bleak Falls (Temple)

So after the first gate trap (I mean the pressure plate + spiked pancake combo). After I turn right and face that small staircase I immediately freeze. I've tried remedying this by not looking up as I would assume it's a lighting issue of some sort maybe because of mods.

 

As a side note: my laptop is a potato but it doesn't seem to heat up a lot while playing. I have an i7-4712MQ and an nVidia GT 940 with 2GB VRAM with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Yes, it sucks but nothing better for university

Everything was downloaded from the SSE Nexus. So I would assume mostly everything is working. There might be some incompability. Only thing I can imagine is Smilodon conflicting with VioLens or SMIM just screwing everything up.

I also have the same problem, and I tried to disable SMIM, Violens and other same mods as yours. My SSE still freezes at the same place...

I sort of fixed it. I did it by disabling SMIM and also disabling the files themselves. From NMM just double-clicking on SMIM will disable the files but NOT delete the mod itself. I got past the glitch and got to Whiterun.
