SSE Hold Daggers the Right Way!

In real life when you want to fight somebody with a knife, you would hold the knife with the blade down, not up. So why do these expert warriors hold the blade up life a first-time thug? It would be cool if they held the knife right, and the animations for the attacks were changed.

BUT when the player wants to slit their throat while sneaking, it still makes sense to hold the blade up so that they can slit from the right side moving left to right.

 

I think this would be a good way to feel cooler too as you pull out your dagger after you run out of arrows or magicka, or you simply sneak around with your dagger blade-down.

 

I think this would definitely be a good mod idea, and that other people probably wouldn't even know they wanted this until they saw it on the Nexus.

actually if your going to stab somebody you would stab upward at them not swing downward. a wild overhead down swing telegraphs the attack, is much slower, and with a knife or dagger you want to be quick and not let them have time to defend. stabbing or swinging downward makes it easier to be disarmed as well. that stance where you hold the knife loosely and pointed at the ground is a defensice, very reactive stance and any real attack will be upward so you can get more power and leverage.

I'm no expert on the subject, but from what I understand there are two styles of dagger fighting, icepick (dagger down) and saber grip (dagger up). Icepick was used due to things like mail and woven armor since it had more penetration, where as a saber grip gets more reach and maneuverability. What this comes down to is the same logic a saber or katana would be better to bring during the age of gunpowder over weapons like the longsword or maces. All this just comes from watching a few fencing videos in my spare time, so I maybe completely wrong in my understanding.

both styles have their strengths and weaknesses to be sure. and what i was told is only one way of looking at things. the whole point of a blade is the hurt your enemy however you can. "Stick'em with the pointy end." as they said in Game of thrones. :smile:

Well i say do an icepick grip down. Gravity is in your favor and you could penetrate through any thick clothing the target may have
