So what I found fairly annoying in Skyrim was the idea that you were the best. No matter what you did, you will succeed. So what if that was used as a story element in the game?

When you first get called to the Greybeards, on the way up the mountain, you meet a young man who asks if you were the supposed 'dragonborn'. You can choose to either ignore him or say that you are the dragonborn. If you reply yes, then he will nod and say that you and him will see each other later, for fate has commanded it. Basically, along the main story line you'll ecounter this young man who will help you or ask for help (in a quest etc.) the more you help him, the more he'll lose his confidence in himself. This young man wants to make a difference, he wants to be a part of fate and knowing that you are technically the 'chosen one' he wants to follow in your footsteps.

After defeating Alduin, you'll meet the young man again. Knowing that he is not the chosen one, he is not special, he wishes to fight you. Just to prove something.

It will be a long and difficult battle, for he has trained all his life to fight beyond his limits.

But of course, you will win, for you are dragonborn. You can then choose to kill him, or leave him. And he will wish for death, because he realises that he has no purpose.

And you'll expect a reward, for after every fight you've fought, you have gained something. But you will find nothing, and maybe you will feel sad, or nothing at all, for you have just killed a man who fought with all his life for something greater than his very existence, but got nothing in the end.

You will continue to succeed. For you are dragonborn.

And you will never lose.

This will be both a part of the main storyline and not, as it will not change the events of the storyline, just add a small bit of depth. An idea that I came up with. Tell me what you think.
