Unable to replace mesh in backpack mod - NifSkope

Hey all,

I've been banging my head over this for the past 3 days and haven't made any progress. I wanted to see if Big Leather Backpacks ( http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65359 ) worked for Skyrim SE, but the backpack model only shows up in the crafting menu at the leather rack. Once I craft the backpack and equip, I am presented with a floating semi-transparent red exclamation point sign.

Having no experience porting mods over, I searched around and saw that several people had used Nifskope to replace the mesh in existing mod NIF files, so I downloaded a backpack mod I confirmed working in-game for Skyrim SE - Leather Backpack - Special Edition ( http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3425 ) and attempted to replace the mesh data using Nifskope.

While this works for the mesh in the NIF that shows up in the Inventory, I can't get it working for the character equip NIF mesh; it's still showing a red exclamation point sign. I followed some posts around the forum, and so far here is what my attempt process has been:

'Copy' NiTriShapeData from reference NIF -> 'Paste Over' NiTriShapeData to target NIF
'Copy' NiSkinData from reference NIF -> 'Paste Over' NiSkinData to target NIF
'Copy' NiSkinPartition from reference NIF -> 'Paste Over' NiSkinPartition to target NIF

I've also experimented with converting NiSkinInstance to BSDismemberSkinInstance, but not sure if this is something I need to do.

Once I do this for both meshes in Big Leather Backpacks, the mesh shows up fine in the target NIF in NifSkope. But in-game, I'm still getting the red exclamation point sign. I've reached a roadblock where most of Nifskope is over my head, so I would greatly appreciate any help on this.

(Or if I'm over-complicating it and porting the original mod from Skyrim to Skryim SE would be easier, that would work too...)
