CTD on kill any NPC

If this has been posted, sorry i couldn't find info on it.

Ever since i started modding fnv, I've had a recurring issue i couldn't fix.

After playing for sometime (likely a few hours) i can't kill any NPCs anymore.

i Can kill animals sometimes, but any NPC, any method of killing, including

guns, energy and explosions from me, cause instant crash.

Anyone ever had this issue, and have you fixed it?

That's a new one. Can we get some more details? Such as which version of Windows, can you force the CTD to happen at will and if so what is required? And a "load order"?

Usually a CTD is due to a mod conflict or running out of memory or heap space. But the latter two are not usually so specific as to only when you kill an NPC but not creatures. Take a look at the wiki article "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide and see if any of that fits your situation.

as for my system..

Motherboard: 2GB Intel dual core

Ram: 4096 DDR2

Gfx: 2GB nVidia GeForce 8500GT

(Mass Effect 3 looks awesome, with only slight stagger on high settings not max)

Game using latest NVSE, 4GB(not latest but stable), NVSR, Lutana, JIPNVSE, NVAC...

i'm trying to work through mod conflict resolution, but since the problem is time delayed,

i cant really get far on my own.

any ideas...?

The primary reason to post your load order is so anyone familiar with a particular mod's peculiarities can comment. (I'm certainly not familiar with all of them.) For instance, while I doubt it is causing your particular problem, I do see you have several of the "HUD-UI-Menu issues" mods installed, so you should check out that wiki article. You want as stable a game as possible anyway.

In addition, while it may be a different LO than previously, people often have at least some of the same favorite mods every time they play. Anything consistent between games with the same problem is suspect. It will help if you can recall which were in use previously. For instance, I see you have a number of NVEC and related compatibility patches. If you used it previously, I would suggest dropping it first based upon other reports of issues. Try using YUP instead for game "fixes".

You aren't using a "merge/bash patch" file. With that many mods, especially with those compatibility patches, you need one.

If you have the "CTD" fixes listed in the "Mod Conflict" guide linked earlier, and are not using the built-in game "auto-save" feature, then the problem is almost certainly a mod conflict. I've been working with someone else on a different but similar "only happens when" issue in the thread "The issue returneth". You are going to need to follow a very similar procedure: determine the logical causes to narrow down possible suspect mods, or start loading from scratch. However, if you can set up a "save game" situation that can reliably trigger the issue, then you can use that save for testing using either approach: trimming down or rebuilding from vanilla. Just remember to do a "clean save" of your test game whenever you remove a mod, to flush out any remnants of it before testing again.

my merge patch is fourth from bottom.

found out something interesting,

turns out once you start to use 4gb,

you should disable heap in nvsr and use nvse heap patch,

did this and also disabled hooklightcriticals section in nvsr,

been playing on the recent problem save for almost a full day.

happy so far... let's hope that fixed it for good.

don't want to be having this same problem again.

Congrats. Good to hear it's as simple as a heap issue.

NVSR varies in effectiveness among platforms. Some have issues with one thing or another, and others don't. Only testing will tell. I use FNV4GB, and NVSR's heap algorithm 6 (after testing them all), along with the "Sheson" NVSE heap patch. Never had a problem. Doesn't mean a thing, really, except that they can work together on some systems. Glad you figured out what works for you.

Best of luck and enjoy.
