All mods are crashing both saved and new games.

Ok I posted this in technical support but I am just going to make it simple:

I have prepped for mods using both these instructions:

http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation

and these instructions

http://www.ign.com/wikis/fallout-4/How_to_Install_PC_Mods

any mod that I install causes any loaded game to crash on startup and any new game to crash on startup.

What am I doing wrong?

My computer:

Processer: Intel® Core i3-2130 cpu@ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz

Installed Memory Ram: 8.00GB

System type: 64bit operating system

Your PC specs are irrelevant here. You are most likely missing a master for one of the installed mods and it causes your game to instantly terminate.

I'm not familiar with the term Master. what should I do?

Edit: also I have: 1 mod installed: the lowered weapons mod. That is it.

Are you using the original Lowered Weapons mod from here: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/522 or the DLC add on to it from here: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13842 or both? The first, original mod should only require Fallout4.esm as a master. But the second mod will require DLC also as masters. So if you're using the second mod and don't have all the DLC it's designed for, it will definitely crash.

A master, to put it in simple terms, is a file that is required for a given mod to work. Fallout4.esm is a required master file for all mods. The DLC files may be required master files for mods as well depending on the mod. Typically .ESM files such as the base game and DLC files are master files, but complex mods can also contain a .ESM or even a .ESM and one or more .ESP files as well. So a complex mod may have it's own master file as well as requiring at least the base game file as master file. Sometimes mods will even require just the .ESP of a different mod as a master file also.

Another thought, and I can't remember the details from your other thread...Are you using an older version of NMM that installs files directly to the Data folder or are you using the open beta NMM that now installs using a virtual file system? Regardless of which version you're using, have you completely cleaned the Data directory to make absolutely certain that there aren't loose files accidentally left behind from an incomplete uninstall of previous mods? If you're using the open beta NMM you'll want to verify the same thing with wherever it's storing mod files now. Sorry I haven't gotten around to digging into the guts of the new version yet, I just started using it myself like two nights ago, so I don't know yet how it does things. It's possible that there is a partial mod that was previously uninstalled badly that is looking for a master that is obviously no longer there.

This isn't necessarily your fault, NMM just sometimes doesn't remove everything and unless you know exactly what loose files go with what mod and you go actually looking for them in the install directory, you'd never know it from looking at NMM's mod list or your plugins.txt. This is one of the reasons that I really prefer to download all mods manually and save a backup of the mod file in a completely different location, then install using a mod manager from the backup location. I do end up with two copies of the mod on my system, one where the mod manager installs it and one in my backup folder. But it's incredibly handy to be able to compare file structures between the two locations in situations like this. It's also handy in case the mod author takes their mod down (I'll still have it for personal use), or if they don't leave archived older versions on their files page and I need to revert to an older version for some reason (I'll have my own archived version history).

I have version: 0.63.9 beta. I have lowered weapons 1.1 (the first link you have) not the DLC. I purge any changes that I did for setting up mods by deleting the altered files then verify the integrity of the game through steam. I have another downloaded mod that I tried: vivid landscapes; which gave me the same results. I removed that and reinstalled the entire game.

what I need to know is: how to just correctly install a mod using NMM. Is there anything i need besides NMM? should I look at Vivid landscapes and see where it required files to be altered and go in and delete them piece by piece? should I download the DLC for lowered weapons because I have most of the DLCS (except far harbor) Do I need to find the Master files and download them manually and then use NMM? I just feel like the solution should be more simpler then it is.

Download manually and unpack Lowered Weapons to a temporary folder like your desktop and compare it to the install location to make sure that all files got installed. That's all I can think to suggest. Otherwise I'm at a loss on this one unfortunately. :(

Yeah those pesky loose files that NMM failed to uninstall or missed installing are a real pain. Some days I think I should go back to manual installs which is how I originally learned. It turned out to be a valuable lesson though in how mods work. :D
