Mod Uploaders Please Read

I do not know what anyone else feels, but I am getting very disgusted downloading mods for SSE only to find that it was uploaded by a moron who didn't test it, fix it or even make it (for that matter) and I want to bring this to the attention of the Mods & Admin of Nexus. I have a list of about 200 files right now which were uploaded and have all claimed to be SSE compatible. Every single on of them are not. They have inconsistencies and errors. Some are subtle, some are not. I am not going to upload the list here for a couple of reasons. Mainly, the mods did work on skyrim and were really good and I do not want to ruin the reputation of the mod creators. But also, I have the list which includes the names of the up-loaders and I guarantee that every one of them will never see a donation from me, even if they were to create a mod like Falkstaar.

This being said, I would like to make a request for the website designers/admin/mods, put a button on every page which has a mod that has been uploaded by someone that people can click when they find the mod doesn't work for SSE.

Now I completely understand that there will be some who abuse this to have mods removed that do work so my idea is this. Until there is 100 individual clicks of that button, the only thing that will be added will be a warning at the top of the mod pages that warns that this mod may or may not be compatible with SSE. If there is 100 clicks or more, the mod should be removed or blocked until an administrator or someone else who works for nexus can verify that the mod does not work. Once it is verified by the staff, the mod up-loader will be given a warning and sent to a page where they will have to re-read the uploading and mod guidelines again and agree to them. If the person uploads more then one mod which is deemed incompatible with SSE, their account will be removed from accessing the nexus site again.

Now, if people just click the button to have mods removed that DO work in SSE, when 100 clicks occur and the staff verifies that the mod does indeed work for SSE, those people reporting will be also sent to a page which they will have to read and agree to in order to be allowed to continue using the website. If a person gets more then one infraction for reporting a mod as not working for SSE and the staff verifies that the mods do in fact work, then that person should be removed from using the nexus site for good.

One more item on the agenda and I am sorry for the length of my topic, but I think that every mod which gets uploaded by someone else who did not create the mod, they should have written documentation from the actual mod up-loader who created the mod originally. If they do not have written authorization, then the staff should link the mod to the original creator's account and removed the rights from the up-loader's account. This way, the original creator's can either fix the mod, update the mod, or remove the mod without having to get permission from the person who re-uploaded the mod only.

I am very appreciative of the time you took to read this topic. Please feel free to leave any constructive criticism you want. But if you only wish to reply with a one line reply or bait myself or others into a flame war, feel free to hit the back button and don't bother.

mod piracy is a thing. this is why you report these things and the mod gets removed and the mod reuploader getting banned. you need evidence to prove you have permission. also some mods are allowed to be reuploaded as the author has given blanket permissions on the mods page.

flaming can get you banned.

seriously dont want to sound like a jerk but the point you are making in this post vs the argument you stated makes it look like you dont know how the site works... in other words a hypocrite. i really mean this as simple criticism and not trying to offend or anything but i know it will because it is offensive.

now on the other hand your point is valid. so report the mods and the staff will look into it, again this is something of an issue thats been going on for a while and the staff are aware of. the button idea isnt going to work and probably isnt worth the time. you should also note that it might not be the mod but you the is not working. just throwing that out there, mods sometimes dont like to work. it is truly frustrating to try to mod with all of these poorly ported mods though and i feel the pain.

You can't be talking about those mods that are currently setting records in endorsements and downloads. They are so perfect and have no flaws. /sarcasm

I would suspect you are indeed downloading ported mods that are not actually saved through the CK SE(that's how they are "upgraded").

Your suggestions I find to be harsh though.. you can talk to the mod authors on their page instead.

Yes I know.. some might not be cooperative, but then mod users tend to be quite shrewd themselves. And I'm not insinuating that you are being shrewd.

The former, I just uninstall and make sure to never use mods made them again, no matter how cool it might be.

On testing mods: I've learn that you can test test test test test and people can still have problems.

This is a free creative community. If someone has made a mod that has errors in it, it would be far more beneficial (and rational) to talk to the mod author and let them know about it rather than trying to anonymously get it kicked off the site. Not everyone can afford 2 computers to be able to properly test a mod for bugs and do it for free as a hobby. If this were a pay site where Mods cost money then I could understand your outrage, but it is not.

Its quite simple, if you don't like a mod don't use it. If a mod you download isn't working properly, talk to the author to let them know and stop using it until it is fixed.

Making mods is fun, but its also tricky. Mod authors need help from the users finding bugs, not people grabbing pitch forks and chasing them out of town the moment they make a mistake
