Want a Fallout movie? What kind?

Early 2016 IGN interviewed Todd Howard who claimed Bethesda has considered making an movie about Fallout.

So far Bethesda has chosen to keep their options open on the matter as when it comes down to movie industry success is uncertain.

What do you all think? Should there be a Fallout movie or several? Maybe a TV-series?

If so what kind of a story should it tell? A story could mainly be taken directly from one of the games or Bethesda could choose to go and create a completely new story.

I for one think it would be a great idea but shouldn't be rushed. The story of Fallout 4 at least has potential for a proper movie even if you aren't truly familiar with the setting. The main character him/herself doesn't truly know the world around him and has to find everything out by him/herself. That would be a great way to introduce the world to new fans. The story has its ups and downs but in the end it ain't all that bad. The choice of ending though? I can't truly say which of all the endings we have seen would work the best. Perhaps the so called "Best Good Ending" in which most of the factions survive the events of Fallout 4? All the same I cannot see this story fitted into one movie but maybe a series or a couple films.

How about you? What are your thoughts?

By the way check out Bluepanda's tribute videos to Fallout 4. They are what inspired me to make this post. :geek:

tv show or nothing. it should focus on a group of people trying to survive in the wasteland. probably in a comparable way to how Lost and the walking dead did/are doing it. maybe make a vault dweller the 'main' character or something for exposition stuff as they would be the ones least likely to know much about the post-apocalyptic wasteland. though really it should be early after the bombs at about the time when the settlements are actually starting to take root and probably should be located. oh and it should really have grimdark tones to it. seriously there should be times where the 'good guys' similar to Game of Thrones. i don't want it to copy any of the existing or past shows i just used those shows as examples.

Would Scarlett Johansson be available to play Vilja? Wonder if Jack Black could fit in an Inigo costume? Could Sofia stay sober long enough to film a movie? Would Lydia help carry the director's burdens? Could I get an autographed photo from Jordis?

There are enough stories within the Skyrim game and quest mods to fill a long series of Skyrim movies, but how many times would the public be willing to watch the killing of some bandit chief in a cave? Could the Trainwiz stories help create a cult following at art movie houses?

Epic movies are always fun and the Sovngarde scene would a good climax.

an interesting thread for sure! lore discussion is always fun,

but exegetical 'writing about writing' threads take it to the next level -

and seeing what other fans come up with is cool!

Indeed! an FO movie would be pretty awesome.

you are not going to be able to please all fans, as theres a wide range of style differences between FO1 and FO4,

and game theory of youtube laments a lot of videogame to movie adaptations.

more often than not, videogame movies do not perform well at box office, because they aren't crafted as a movie itself as well.

I'd like to see a 'serious' version. Richard Linklater, G Miller, the Wachowskis, PWS Anderson, Spielberg, D Lynch or Brian Singer would be very interesting...

since FO is as iconic as The Twilight Zone, you could have the FO movie made very similarly to the Twilight Zone movie...

though I'd like to see it stay true to the Harlan Ellison and Adam Adamowicz source materials as much as possible -

very 'cinema verite' - you feel like this is a real universe.

Piller, Braga and Berman, R D Moore, A Moore (Moore & Moore!)

even, H Ellison himself.

that approach, "a very trekish fallout", is also another way to a 'serious' fallout.

(there are a lotta lotta overlaps between trek and fallout).

flipside of the coin, a camp-y and more 'fun' (dark sense of humor) FO movie would be interesting,

if as by M Night Shyamalan, J Schumacher, Synder and Bully Herbig.

Narice Mclaugherty, she can also make very funny comedy,

lesli linka glatter, Meera Syal.

not quite a rom-com, not quite a monty python, but asking a lot of questions behind most of the humor...

something like that would also be fun.

We need to also keep at back of mind the question if a 'linear' movie even needs to exist,

given that videogames already are a 'cinema'. why watch one way to play,

when you can 'be there' yourself, and play things out differently?

while we wait for a FO movie 'officially',

Already, a great number of fan projects exist -

Nuka Break is a great example.

AIChestbreach's machinima,

It could be a miniseries (think; battlestar galactica, DUNE etc)

it could be a blockbuster backdoorpilot movie, with a show by the wachowski's + deadwood = awesome.

a web series,

an animated/hybrid movie (in a scanner darkly, sin city),

all kinds of stuff.

key points;

i)the protagonist (vault dweller) is filmed in homage, they do not cast a reflection, and they do not speak. this could be a running gag...

ii) ron perlman is narrator.

iii) we see different parts of the FO world than solely north america, since all prior games have focused on North America only.

no, this would be a terrible idea. the series should stay in North America for it's first movie/show.

aside from the wachowski's part i agree here completely. the wachowski's arent all that great these days. though it needs to have some of old Fallout (everything before FO4) dark humor. like it has to have teddy bears in funny situations for example.

honestly i think we need a Spielberg type movie. he really fits over all based on past works.

Personally, I'll settle for an in-depth documentary detailing all the development cycle (and everything that went wrong) + the reasoning for the horrible design decisions that Bethesda made when they were developing Fallout4. There are enough to fill a good 2-3 hours, and it'd be fun watching TH attempting to justify it!
