Justiciar Execution Order: what is the activating event?

Do you have confirmed, accurate knowledge what exactly activates the event of the Justiciar Execution Order? Or have you played the game often enough so far to have a solid gut feeling that it is independent of any of your actions and only relies on your level or progress in the game, nothing more? Or is there one specific thing or more that you do which causes them to hunt you down? The letter specifically states that the reason you're being hunted down is: "actively disrupted our activities and caused great harm", how exactly have we done that?

Hmm, have you killed Justiciars? I killed a few in out of the way places so no witnesses. The only time I could have probably did really something bad to them and left witnesses to tell the tale was breaking into the embassy.

 

I have killed one group before, yes, and it was not even my choice because no matter what you say or not say, if you keep talking to any of them, they will eventually attack assuming that you worship Talos. However, I have read in the forums someone reporting that they never killed any of them before and eventually still encountered the event of the Justiciar Execution Order, so there must be something other than killing them that triggers this, whether it is something that we do or simply advancing in the quest line. I'm just curious if there is something other than advancing in the quest line to perhaps explore the possibility of not being attacked by them.

I'm just as stymied as the OP in what triggered the justicars' sudden "kill on sight" execution order. My Sionid had never attacked any Thalmor,nor done anything that could conceivably piss them off, nor has she taken sides in the civil war, yet imagine her surprise when 3 justicars suddenly jumped her out of the blue. She hadn't even been active on the main questline when this happened having not advanced the main quest since her escape from Helgen. And since she is basically a "good" character that doesn't kill wantonly, it's a bit perplexing. It has to be totally unassociated w/the main quest or else you would never get admission into the Thalmor embassey for the Diplomatic Immunity quest and she had no problem there once she did get into the main questline.

 

The justicars need to get in line since the Dark Brotherhood is also sending would-be assassins after her for some unknown transgression on her part! She's left a trail of bodies behind her as they are completely inept, as were the Thalmor justicars.

Simplistic game design. Instead of being able to choose whether or not your character likes the Thalmor, they're just generically evil because... durka.

 

I mean, the least they could do is let Altmer characters keep a good relationship with the Thalmor, but nope.

The only way to get the Thalmor and the Dark brotherhood after you is to complete the main quest up until the point where you slay the first dragon and the greybeards call for you.

 

That's it, nothing more to it than that. Once rumors of the dragon born start to spread you're a wanted wo/man. My best guess is that the Thalmor, who have the most accurate history books out of any of the races on Nirn, remember what happened the last time they tried to conquer a nation with a dragonborn in it. This is a world after all, where myths and legends just so happen to have a good basis in fact. So if I were the head of a group who stood to lose a lot from having a person such as that around, I'd want them dead too.

I guess its the event where you are uncovered as dragonborn (killing the dragon at whiterun)

 

The Thalmor want the dragonborn be dead before he comes up with anything, and supposedly also contract the Brotherhood.

I like what formalrevya and faifh mentioned; yes, it makes sense if the "trigger" is simply you being discovered as a dragonborn, and it makes sense that if the lore (of which I'm not very familiar) gives hints about the Thalmor having trouble with conquering a nation with a dragonborn in it, then they would try to assassinate them.

 

With that said, I also agree with Elendre and Dukkah in the sense that it would have been much better if it is explained to us, as players, regardless to our familiarity with the lore. Some hints about the reasons this is happening would've been very useful for our immersion and enjoyment of the story and the world; reasons and hints other than the very vague and often nonsensical "actively disrupted our activities and caused great harm", that is.
