.lip files generated from .fuz?

Hello, my name is (not) RopeSander.

I am currently working on a mod that will allow users to use dialogue from General Tullius as either new follower dialogue or NPC dialogue. Mostly everything works thus far, but during my process I have not found a solid way to either generate .lip files for all of the lines of dialogue, I have processed and even spliced nearly 150 lines of dialogue, however due to my own ignorance or lack of experience I am not sure how to create .lip files for these essentially pre-recorded files.

Any assistance would be appreciated, and also useful to modders in the future. It would be great for me to find a process that helps me do this as I'd like to contribute other projects of this nature that will help modders to create followers with unique voice types.... God knows that we could all benefit from some diversity in regards to follower mods.

Unfuzer is the program I used to convert the files you did for me from xwm and lip to .fuz files. You can also do the reverse. You can convert .fuz files into xwm and .lip files, and back again to create the combined fuz and lip files used by the game. It is rather simple to use, and self explanatory.

Don't Listen to the Above Poster Unfuzer cannot create new.lip files, it just utilizes them. like splitting a existing fuz file or merging a new existing wav & lip. but can in no way, shape or form create new ones, only the creation kit can.

The edited wave that you created, copy to Temp.wav found at overwriting it.

  • Skyrim\Data\Sound\Voice\Temp.wav

Make sure the Dialogue Text for Subtitles is done including commas for pauses, & periods for Stops. If very important to avoid Kung-Fu mouth.

In the Creation Kit Dialogue Record Bit press SAVE not RECORD

it will Generate both a wav & lip file, named them accordingly, then save them in the correct folder.

I use a bat file to copy my waves to make thing easier, you may need to adapt it with your skyrim paths

@ECHO OFF
DEL "C:\Game\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\Sound\Voice\Temp.lip"
DEL "C:\Game\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\Sound\Voice\Temp.wav"
COPY %1 "C:\Game\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\Sound\Voice\Temp.wav"

Place the bat in Folder with Edit Waves backups, drag & drop .wav onto .bat with a mouse while the Kit is open.

I always say play with it, you'll soon get the general idea.

Thanks for responses.... first of all... I'll always listen to Aragorn.... : p

But I should say that I have been using Unfuzer to 'back and forth' my sound files.... but it has yet to create any .lip files... even with the option ticked. It appears that the Martyr Peter is correct about that.

But I have to ask @PeterMartyr.... "The edited wave that you created, copy to Temp.wav found at overwriting it." I am not sure what you mean by this.... I think I understand the concept... I will have to mess with it tomorrow evening. The .bat file configuration you posted gratifies me, not sure exactly how that works in my benefit, but like you said... just play with it.

Oh, I will.

Not looking for an argument, but I disagree to an extent. I have experimented with the mentioned procedure with good results on all occasions. I took .fuz files from an mod, and converted them to .xwm and .lip files and then removed the fuz files from the mod and replaced them with the converted files just to see if it could be done as I have not had any dealings with voice files in Skyrim before. The files worked just as well as the original .fuz files.

So if the OP is using bits from Skyrim voices.bsa .fuz files and piecing them together the results should be the same. Although I do agree with you about the text for the spoken words being present in the CK if associated with a quest. But it sounds to me as though he is just trying to create some generic lines of dialogue to be used as resources that can be attached to a follower or any NPC.

I'm by no means an expert, but these are things that have worked for me.

Oh and if he is looking for separate .lip files when converting to .fuz files there are none. They are somehow included in the .fuz file. Like I said not an expert, possibly some magic spell.

@Aragorn, that is the impression I got as well... that the .lip was included IN the .fuz files.... When I got into the process I spent most of my time listening to AND splicing .wav files, also using the CK as reference for 'Generic Responses', I had noticed that there were NO .lip files produced while using Unfuzer.... just to check I referenced the voice files for Benjamin Doon, the Carry On Skyrim follower by skinnytecboy.

I found NO .lip files, so I was under the impression that it was normal by some means to have .fuz files and NO .lip files.... however when I tested my mod my TEST character had NO lip movements.... however...

Taking advice from PeterMartyr it seems I've been able to generate .lip files without having to 'second hand' sample my .wav files. I have yet to test it... I can't be sure it's going to work. However I am hopefull, and if I can make it work I hope to have a GREAT new resource for modders by Monday, and if it works I can try my hand at a few other unique voices.

Hopefully that will quench my modding thirst, as I'd like to switch characters and play a few EPIC mods I haven't played yet. : p

OK if that is the way it is than that is the way it is. As I said I'm no expert. Glad you got it working. I don't remember which mod I used to test it on when I did it but it may have been one that had already been converted once and the text for the dialogue could have been included.

Yeah, I figured it out, I was under the impression the CK was taking data from the .fuz files only.... but once I also pulled .wav files out using unfuzer, it was using those files to generate .lip files.

And when Fuzed back into .fuz it still works thanks for the help both of you guys!!

Most of that stuff is over my pay grade but glad you got it working. Only know what worked for me. Glad I could return the favor.
