Frequent Crashes with Mod Organizer

Long story short, I can't get LOOT to work because my computer refuses to allow MVC2015 to install for some reason. It's a work in progress (It hasn't been my week for computers if you can't tell lol. The installer hangs up and won't continue at the very end). Since I don't have loot, I typically check my order with TES5Edit, which doesn't come up with any issues.

To potentially get your LOOT to work, go into your file explorer and make sure no remnants exist of LOOT and MVC2015 anywhere on your system. Use a system cleaner tool, defrag, remove malware/spyware crap and then do a restart. Disable your antivirus and then try to install said programs again. See if that lets you. Also, you could try asking on the forums of the LOOT page.

 

1. I would disable your ELFX Weather as it is not compatible with CoT. Just reinstall and don't select the weathers.esp option or disable it in your plugins. I would also have your main ELFX mod come before your exteriors and any other esps it adds.
2. Alternate start should be at the very bottom almost always. Put any patches that refer to the AS LAL mod after it. For instance the betterquestobjectives aspatch.
3. Your interesting NPCs (3dnpc) is good, but I'd move the patches a bit lower.
4. I suggest moving your XPMSE just above Alternate start.
5. Anything pertaining to Winterhold probably should come after your expanded winterhold ruins mod.
6. Dual Sheath Redux patch should be last.

I would set your load order something similar to this:

Also, make sure that if using Mod organizer that your left side load order and right side match above, then when you get LOOT working, sort with it. It will organize the right, then match the left to the right pane.

OKAY GOOD NEWS.

 

After three or four days of tweaking and working on it, I was able to get Loot up and running. Had to do a controlled reset that disabled 95% of my processes or some such to get it updated, but I've sorted and worked with loot now to get rid of all the errors in my mod order and get it sorted.

Like I said, I cleared up the errors that it had (was throwing errors for the new CoT SoS compatibility patches because it had too many esps, so I deleted all but the ones I actually needed, and FSS doesn't work with UFO) but I'm still getting 19 warnings, most of which are cleaning issues (all except the DLC's are just ITM issues)

Key things though.

First, I've never cleaned before and really don't want to botch something up, so is it vital to clean each mod?

Secondly, I'm fixed an error for UFO that requires addons for Dawnguard and Hearthfires, which I've downloaded . However, I've wanted to remove UFO and replace it with aft, but the game crashes each time I try to - even if I follow the mod instructions explicitly. Is it worth giving another uninstall chance or should I just keep with what I have? Thoughts and advice would be appreciated! Thank you so much for all your patience and help!

UPDATE: Skyrim still crashes on save. I have literally no idea what's wrong at this point. Going to try to remove UFO and see if that does anything

Anytime you move/alter/delete a mod from an active save, because Skyrim bakes scripts into your saves, it can cause your game to do weird things or crash. This is because the game is still kicking on those scripts, but the mod is no longer there. It is always best to start a new game, or if you're stubborn, use a script cleaner; but be advised, they aren't perfect.

 

As for your cleaning errors in LOOT: Most mods aren't going to get screwed up if you clean them. Just make sure you do it right. Youtube has plenty of videos on how to properly clean a file for TES5Edit. Just pick a recent video and you should get the most accurate one. Before you do, go over the mod author's page and make sure he/she they don't suggest not to clean the mod. If they do suggest not cleaning, step away. Otherwise you should be alright. If the mod screws up, you can always reinstall and see if not cleaning it helps; though I've never experienced cleaning a mod making my game freak out. There have been a couple mods in the past that I've used that have said not to. These, I'd imagine, would screw up if I did.

 

As for UFO, by the game crashing, are you saying your Mod organizer is crashing or Skyrim itself? If you uninstalled UFO from an active game, of course it will crash; especially if you had a bunch of followers in its system. The mod author suggests you release all of your followers before uninstalling the mod. If you are starting a new game, don't worry about it. Just uninstall UFO, start a new game and it shouldn't be crashing when you have installed AFT.

 

I would still suggest you put your XPMSE at the bottom of your load order above Alternate start.

As for FNIS, you open the program after you've installed your animation mods and activate them. Then, if using NMM, go to your skyrim/data/tools/GenerateFNIS_for_USERS and then activate the program. Click the Update button and look in the stream that there aren't any ERROR things in it. If there are, get the suggested programs. Once it is done, just exit the program and you're done.

 

If using MO, you need to activate the program through Mod Organizer. Go to the data tab and locate the Tools section at the bottom. Then the same way, activate the fnis for users and update.

When I originally tried to uninstal UFO I went about it verbatim what the author said to do: releasing followers, talking to the fairy, etc. but it caused crashes that I couldn't stop, so I re-enabled it and went to a save before I had tried to uninstall it. In theory it *shouldn't* be the problem, but I'm just lost at this point. I'm going to try and start a new game (without UFO) and see if I can save to narrow down if it's something in my mods or something else.

 

FNIS is installed as per the gamer poets video so that should be working. Patch and all

 

PLOT TWIST. Moved XPMSE and disabled UFO on MO and now Skyrim crashes when the main menu is about to pop up.

 

Update: fixed this ctd, was a dependency from a betterQuestObjectives patch

A new game seems to work just fine, though I hate to lose all of my progress. I may end up just starting over and choosing a different follower overhaul mod. my old game may have just been too script heavy. Plus this does give me the chance to sort out some of my mods and make sure I only have what I want and no extra flub on the sides.

 

I really appreciate all the help you've given snelss0, but I don't want to waste all of your time if the game file is just too corrupted to continue.

 

If you don't mind, are there any mods you'd recommend? I am definitely in need of a follower overhaul other than UFO if you have suggestions

Tried a new game and was able to load in and save, but when approaching my first town (started with Alternate Start, Left for Dead, first town was riften) I crashed upon trying to enter the town before it was able to autosave, which means my issue is still there...

 

I have the crash log from crash fixes, but as per the norm I can't read it. I'm so sorry to keep needing all this help, but I'm stuck *yet again*

Your skyrim and likes are up to you. Me personally, I've played Skyrim for thousands of hours, so the game, even with mods doesn't really interest me anymore. I enjoy making my character looking nice and taking screenshots. So my mods are built around that. I would suggest: Dynavision or an ENB to make your mods look the best they can. I would also suggest perhaps armor/clothing mods that meet your fancy. I enjoy the LPBards mod, that lets you play music and you can even import your own custom music, and I enjoy Expanded Towns and Cities.

Etac was causing me crashes when I started trying to use it a bit ago, so I try to shy away from that one unfortunately, but I have found a couple decent mods I might try. Right now I'm trying to install NLVA EnB to see if that fixes my crashing, but I'm just not sure. I'm getting pretty close to five hundred hours, so I'm almost in the same boat, but I've yet to beat it because I keep restarting characters lol.

 

I'm still in the situation where my game is crashing, though, and i'm not sure how to fix it. Trying to restart EnBoost with a fresh install and see if that works
