What would be general consensus of hosting NWN modules on Nexus, with maintainer to correct any bugs in the modules as an alternative source to download material from?

It's always been available as an alternative download source.

Good, if there are objections simply remove offending item(s).

My answer assumes you're uploading your own work, or work that the original author permits uploading.

Much of this material is so old now I speculate it is almost in the public domain now.

A work enters the public domain when the author states that they release it to the public domain, and/or 50 years after the death of the author, according to international law. But you don't need public domain, you just need permission, which some authors put in their readme files or descriptions. Ben Harrison, for example, gave open permission for anyone to do whatever they want with his NWN work, including hosting it anywhere.

I see then, most games with a mod community have mods which are forked to other modder(s), I suppose I will look in the file for permissions to see how that works. There are many old modules which need updating to be playable, as they were made long before the final 1.69 patch.
