I can't for the life of me feel immersed with the bow sheathing and placement of this game, I almost exclusively play as an archer/hunter character, and just slapping the bow on your back doesn't appeal to my nerdy desire for roleplay. Also, the clipping with the quiver is frustrating as well, the belted quiver mod fixes this, I know but even without the clipping, I find the bow just being "velcrowed" to your back is a total immersion killer. My idea is a mod that keeps the bow in hand when sheathed, like a shield animation. I have no modding experience, so forgive me if this is something that is impossible, thank you for taking the time to read my mod idea :)

I can get you partial success but I don't know how to work around the issues that crop up.

If you want to play around with it...

  1. Open a bow's NIF file in NifSkope (link is for NifSkope compatible with original Skyrim)
  2. In the Block List window expand the entries (click on little triangles)
  3. Locate NiStringExtraData and highlight that entry
  4. In the Block Details window locate the String Data line
  5. Click on the txt icon
  6. A new box opens
  7. Replace WeaponBow with SHIELD
  8. Save the file
  9. Test in game

Results in game would be as follows:

  • When first equipped it will be carried in the hand.
  • Once used and re-sheathed it will be placed on the back.
  • Only way to get it to go back to the hand is to un-equip and re-equip.

While a script could forcibly un-equip and re-equip that is not ideal. Would be better if the animation instructions were changed. That, however, is beyond my knowledge.
