Radio Station Mod Issue

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to make a radio station. I've found some great tutorials that I have used successfully to make the mod. The radio station is narrative rather than music based, and so there are no individual tracks as such. I've bounced it down into one .wav file as it's a continuous stream. I've tested it on my computer and it works absolutely fine, shows up in game and plays on the Pipboy. So everything works fine, but the audio file itself is massive - over 1.4GB (Over 2 hours of material), which I imagine not many people are going to want to download. When I look in all the other radio mod folders (Old World Radio Stations) all of their tracks are in .xwm format. So after doing some research, I've discovered that

a) .xwm files are the standard ones used by Bethesda

b) The Creation Kit only recognises .wav files

c) there used to be a fix whereby if you converted the audio files to .xwm and then changed the extension to .wav, the CK recognises them - but this is apparently no longer the case.

d) there is a way for the creation kit to convert the file for you into an .xwm file - but I do not know how this is done (this is the first time I've ever used it and basically know nothing whatsoever - I just want my radio show in the game!)

I've tried converting my file to a .xwm but every program I use seems to fail at converting it - and even once I have converted it, how would I get the CK to recognise it? I've searched for help but found none.

So in summary:

a) .wav file way too large

b) cannot convert xwm using Multixwm, LazyAudio, or XWM - WAV Conversion successfully (or, it has worked and I think it hasn't - as I cannot find a program to play it back (VLC does not recognise file type) - I'm not sure!)

c) cannot get Creation Kit to recognise .xwm (either because its failed to encode properly or because I'm being dumb) and don't know how to convert files within Creation Kit

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea about doing radio station, but .wav to .xwm is easy with Skyrim Audio Converter. Atleast for normal dialogue you just drop your .xwm in same folder as your .wav is and game/ck will prefer it over .wav.

Then, when you do archive for your mod later, it will pick the .xwm and leave .wavs out.

Edit. Remember back up. I dont know if it's gonna handle 2h long file.
