A question about editing clothes (and boots)

Forgive me if this question is stupid and I'm asking about something obvious, but I couldn't find any tutorial about it.

There are some people who create nice mashups of some clothes, like boots from one outfit + pants from another, I can recognize rustic boots or Desdemona's. How do you actually edit those meshes? Does it require editing the model in 3D software and deleting some parts of it, to leave just shoes or undershirt?

I wish shoes were separate items like gloves and they used 2 separate slots.

In most cases, yes you would need a standalone 3D modelling program, but you can also use Outfit Studio as well.

Bethesda made the choice to combine the "feet" with the legs, and in certain cases with the torso as well. So we're pretty much stuck with it now. You can separate them by making shoes/boots into Left Leg and Right Leg armor pieces though.

Thanks, now I see I could use Outfit Studio if I delete or move vertices one by one. Also, I found a couple of mods with some elements of clothing as separate parts, like Clothing Of The Commonwealth, Simple Clothing, Fully Customizable Outfits and Jackets, these might be very useful.

What interesting, many modders don't bother with deleting some parts of the model, they just add transparency to textures, which is not a particularly good idea, cause it can take several minutes to open in Outfit Studio and sometimes, after editing paths in mesh files and material files everything looks all right in Outfit Studio, but ingame (and in Creation Kit preview) these transparent parts are black instead. But I think I found a way how to fix it, probably has something to do with BGSM file properties.
