Mod compatibility questions

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and I have some compatibility questions that I'd like your help on!

So, I've just recently gotten my first gaming PC specifically to play modded Skyrim. My friend is graciously installing all the mods for me, and he's using STEP. Now, STEP is great, but it doesn't include all the mods I want (most especially, Frostfall!). So now that we've finally got the game stable, my friend is going to install Frostfall, and I'd like him to install a few others too but he doesn't know their compatibility and asked me to find out for myself whether they are compatible.

And like I said, I'm really new at this.

Thus, after a good bit of time spent in confused research, getting increasingly frustrated, I decided to just ask the people who actually know their stuff. Do any of y'all happen to know whether any of the mods below are compatible with a game using STEP (and for that matter, with each other)? And also load order recommendations, if possible?

  • Frostfall (I assume this one is compatible since my friend is already going to install it, but thought I'd put it anyway just in case)
  • Hunterborn
  • Real Shelter
  • RE - Real Estate
  • Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions
  • Realistic Needs and Diseases /OR/ iNeed
  • Live Another Life

So, help a clueless noob out? If anyone has installed STEP and any of these mods, any tips will be HUGELY appreciated!!! Thank you all so much, in advance!! :D

LOOT helps with the load order. It doesn't fully answer the question about compatibility though.

I haven't used all mods in the list myself. So I can't speak about personal experience. But all of these mods are fairly popular and widely used. Apart from that, they change different aspects of teh game. So I wouldn't expect trouble.

In general: Read the mod's description, see if there are compatibility patches for mods you use. If so, install them. Make sure to follow the installation instructions. Then test. With larger load orders you will always have to do some testing and maybe adjusting. Just the way it is. Once you got a stable and running load order, don't change it during your playthrough. You may ADD mods, but never remove anything during a playthrough.

I'm not using all mods from STEP but I use all of the mods you listed and I believe that they're compatible with STEP mods, but my advice is since you just started moding you should ask your friend to teach you basic stuff (Downloading and installing) and I highly suggest you to do everything yourself just find the mod you want(believe me you're not going to stop on that mod you'll want more) read the description of the mod (There are almost always compatibility issues listed) if you like it then install it then sort load order with LOOT sometimes you can see in the description of the mod where it should be in load order then create merged and bashed patch and test your mod and everything related to it and if everything looks ok proceed on another one and repeat everything (Try to install one by one) I hope that this will help you ;)

In moding process you'll be confused many times so when you encounter something that isn't clear to you,you should definitely ask here we will try to help you, also since you just started i recommend you using Mod Organizer instead NMM,I don't why everyone is saying that NMM is good for beginners I think that mod organizer is much more simpler(This is my personal opinion) and also I highly recommend this tutorial by Gromulos for begginers https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2235394-beginners-guide-to-modding/page-1 and check all of the links he posted
