Can't Zoom no matter how hard I try (or cry)

I've tried assigning different keys to zoom in/zoom out, but no matter what, I can't zoom using weapons with scopes. It makes me sad! I want to snipe!

Here's my load order. . .please help. . .I've gone through this twice now and it's still not working.

What mod are you using that will let you re-assign the scope zoom keys? What are you assigning them to? I don't see anything in the "load order" to allow that. The game uses the mouse scroll wheel by default. It does not have "variable zoom" for scopes. All the scopes are a fixed zoom multiplier (all or nothing) activated when you "use the scope". There are some mods that enable variable zoom.

The zoom effect is achieved by changing the Field of View the screen displays, ie, narrower FOV values will result in the screen stretching -> Zoom in. Larger FOV values will result in zooming out.

The amount of zoom for weapons sights and scopes is controlled via the "Sight FOV" value in the "Gama Data" tab of the weapon's properties. If you want to mod it yourself, a bit of searching and you should be able to find a formula for accurate magnification -> FOV conversions, but your best bet will just be to play with it, since most realistic sniper scopes will probably leave you able to zoom in to the point of being able to pick up individual pixels on a target nearing max draw distance.

If you want decent FOV values to start testing around, some have found the values used in BOE:NV to be pretty decent: 8 for max zoom, 20, 32, 45 for lowest power.
(Of course, if you want you could just play with one of their zoom selector scripts and apply it to your weapon of choice, or just use the mod)

Thanks Dubious!

So I've got I think two mods that apply to zoom. One of them is Project Nevada. Under the Settings it allows you to assign keys to zooming. By default they are mwheelup and mwheeldown, but they don't do anything when I have a weapon with a scope. Whenever I mwheeldown, it wheels back from first person POV to third-person POV. I've tried assigning the keys to Z and X with no other keys assigned, but it still doesn't work.

I'm using weapons from the mod "Weapons of the New Millenium" that have scopes.

Does that help?

Thanks very much for your response!

Huh. I'd forgotten the PN had zoom configuration it's been so long since I set it. If your mouse scroll wheel is switching between 1st & 3rd person view (POV aka "CameraView"), you have that configured under the FNV "Game Settings" menu and it's overriding PN. The POV switch should be a "toggle", so it should only be a single key stroke, like "clicking the scroll wheel". The scroll wheel rotation will handle "zoom" better anyway.

Please see the 'Checklist item #4' entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide on how to check that NVSE is working.

PN comes with an older version of MCM. Make sure you have the latest version of MCM and overwrite PN's version.

Can't tell if you have UIO installed, but use it as well. Please see the wiki "HUD-UI-Menu issues" article on the correct "install order" sequence. That is important to get various HUD-UI menus to work together correctly.
