Simple attach item to hat/clothing object possible?

So as a bit of practice in modding I tried to make an item into a hat (A super-serious traffic cone hat to be precise). Just curious if it needs to be rigged to a certain bone or such in max/blender, if I can just set it up in blender or outfit studio, or if it can just be attached to vanilla objects as an sub-attachment of some kind?

I was just using this as a test before trying to play with other things like a few Automatron bits and pieces etc, but so far attempts to work on this result in an object that when opened in the preview sit on the ground while the hat I try to attach it to is in the air... I would guess its the same for the most part for making hair/hats/helmets etc but I haven't had much luck finding any information.

Any hints, tips, or tutorials I can use? Cheers!

If I understand you correctly ... you have a .nif file of a hat (whatever that hat is). I am not sure if all NIFs are the same, or there is a flag saying this is an outfit, this is a furniture or ... a decor (like the traffic cone). I am sure furniture items have a lot of snapping points built in the NIF itself.

But if you want to build this as an outfit .... this is what I would do .... In Outfit Studio, start a new project (or load the nude body project). I think it is easier to load a nude body because all the bone support is already there. For female, pick the CBBE outfit (don't try Slim, or Vanilla .... that's the job of Bodyslide to customize the bodyshape). For male, use Super Hero Body. From there, import the hat. Use Move to align the hat onto the head. Use Scale to scale the mesh to fit properly. There is also a Rotate function as well. These functions are under Shape menu. They guarantee to retain the shape of the hat. Once done, under Slider, use Conform All. SAVE AS to a new project, change all file names and path so it won't mess up the original template file (it is quite important, or you will ruin the template and have to download or retrieve from ZIP again).

And use Bodyslide to find the outfit, build it with your desired preset.

You just gave me idea to try to use a non-outfit NIF to import and use as an outfit item. I gotta try.

If you do try lemme know how it turns out! =3

I just decided on a traffic cone because it keeps begging to be worn as a hat every time I see one... also I may need to make a lawn flamingo weapon to go with it.

I tried doing something to that extent but I think I buggered up the exported bone things, I'll have to try it again. Also, how do I get the outfit thing to have the head/skull bones, the default body I thought is kinda decapitated...
