Skyrim NOT Available on Steam

Well, this is weird. Apparently, roughly 7 days ago, Oldrim (Skyrim Legendary Edition) suddenly dropped off Steam. It's not for sale anymore and cannot be viewed.

It's too late in the morning for me to investigate. Does anyone have more info?

Pretty obvious that they want the special edition to be easier to locate so they took LE out of the search results and category listings. Since you can only locate it by direct link now, I'd expect to eventually see it delisted entirely.

So it would be smart to make a backup copy of your Skyrim folder for when you need a new fresh installation. It might be in time it will not be available any more because they want to force/manipulate people to Skyrim SE.

No. They cant take the game out of your library as we paid for it, we own it.

I certainly hope so.

I bought my Vanilla Skyrim disk version back in 2012 after upgrading my Dell 530 Inspiron Win XP to play it. In late 2015, the WinXP was replaced with a XPS 8900 Win10 but my rural internet connection is still through WildBlue Satelllite, so downloading (among other things) the DLCs was, and still, not an option for me at this time.

At first, as a Steam first timer, I was very upset upon thinking I still needed to be connected to Steam in order to disengage it to play offline after the final installation was completed. Ok, learned I don't but My concern is what would happen IF Steam ever "went down" or, years down the road, Valve folded leaving you with perfectly good games you can't play anymore because of the Steam DRM requirement. At least I can play it "offline" but I'll be damned if Steam pulls my legitimate disk version out of the lineup and can't play it anymore.

As you said, you paid for the game....it's yours.

Yeah that would be a legal storm Steam doesnt want to deal with. I own several games that have been removed from the store but i can still download and play them without issue. Odds are Beth pulled it down because they want people to get the new one... Gonna hurt the modders for a while but that will go away in time.

Call me suspicious, but that is the whole point. I am afraid that beth is just doing that, mainly, but not only for the money.

To be fair though it doesnt really make much sense to sell the older version of a game when you have an updated better one. It's like selling halo 1 on the same shelf as the anniversary edition. Sure it costs more but the newer one looks better and runs better. So from a business angle this is the correct course of action. Sure it looks greedy but you have to remember that they are a company that needs to make a profit. Also no one gets hurt by it long term.

Well, I've made the move to SE, so it's not THAT big a deal for me, but I can certainly understand it being an issue for folks that want to get Skyrim because they like an Oldrim-only mod like, say, ETaC. Of course, as qwertyzeldar pointed out, you can still (sorta) get it (for now) -but only if you know the direct link. Removing it from the search result definitely makes it hard for the majority of new folks, who've heard about Skyrim and are curious about it, to get Oldrim. And that doesn't even mention the fact that you have to buy the DLCs separately now to get the "Legendary"-like edition.

Yes, I know that Nazenn plans to port ETaC to SE eventually. Indeed, we're seeing more and more Oldrim mods getting ported everyday. Many that previously relied on MCM now get the job done using workarounds like spells and/or spellbooks. These methods were highly unstable in Oldrim (just ask MyGoodEye) but work a lot better in SE due to the far more stable 64bit coding.

And I think Arthmoor's suspicion about Oldrim being eventually permanently de-listed is highly likely. I think we'll see an upsurge in mods getting ported with even more workarounds (where it's possible to do so.) Right now I dearly miss ETaC and other great mods that have yet to be ported to SE, but they're coming. I understand this.

Hmmm, I wonder if we'll eventually see Oldrim on GOG?
