Yes, this, http://wotg.stgfc.com/FRoC/The%20Gunny%20Saga%20Home/weapon27.gif

Decided some time ago to make my first full weapon mod a remake of the Fallout 1,2, and Tactics Colt Rangemaster, better known as the original Hunting Rifle. Since I now have a fully textured mesh (still working on normals and speculars) I figured I'd share what I have, what I plan, and see what extras people might like to see.

So, first, pictures of progression.

If you wish to explore some of the inspirations for the ultimate shape and design, take a look at this image page, https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/images/93960

So, that final render shows all the parts that will be available with the first release. Long barrel, short barrel, basic stock, no stock, 10 round magazine, 20 round magazine, iron sights, night sights, a default compensator, and ammo conversions for just about anything. It will also include scopes and a suppressor adapted from the Combat Rifle. Scopes and sights will be mounted forward, above the barrel, just like the old icon. I also still need to make a tape wrap resembling the original inventory icon. This will hopefully all be out by Christmas, or by February at the latest.

Now, plans for a later release include another wooden stock with a cheek rest and shoulder pad, a more modern match style stock, a match style barrel/foregrip, and an M14 or M16 style compensator. Maybe throw in some blue tape for good measure.

This is intended as a step up from the current Hunting Rifle with similar damage and only slightly less accurate, but semi-auto. I haven't decided yet if there will be a full auto receiver, but if there is it will have high perk requirements and do full damage. In keeping with the Fallout 4 naming conventions it may be called "Sport Rifle" in the game. It will be in level lists for just about anybody, appearing a few levels after the Hunting Rifle shows up.

What I'm looking for here are ideas about future parts, and/or technical feedback about anything that needs to be fixed before it gets in the game.

that is one very impressive implement!

xmas truly arrives an additional time this |current year|

a classic is revived, thanks jkruseZeroFive-er

any mod any weapon and this beast will be fun to see

what nX! worth of combos I can come up with.

forgive the heresy of ideas musings below,

its all I could think of for 'future parts pack ideas'

In terms of sights,

a picatinny on top, for 'action-express'/'gutter-snipe' sights would be nice.

night guttersnipe sights can't be beat.

I know it's sacrilege though - those iron sights are awesome as-is.

folding stock/ 'pinball stock'

a 'mad-max-special' (that's an over-under configuration that fires BOTH 410/aguila shorty and 10mm)

a 'serbu-shorty-rized' variant, that's a 'sawn-off' hehe. cut off right at the third muzzle-most serration of the front grip.

before folks laugh, 5 rounds of dragons breath, batteries or flechette would be nasty in the wasteland.

in terms of barrels,

a 'ribbed' one which extends from receiver to the muzzle-crown.

kinda like the 'long Wildey" hehe.

nothing says skeet-shooter like the rib reinforced hehe.

and for "fun";

a box-belt-fed or D-mag for maximum blasting-power,

a pintle-mounted plinker's de-light.

perhaps with a tripod assembly hehe.

that would have a car-muffler barrel with a heat-sink shroud 'skeletonized' over it.

it's really more of a pintle-mounted poorby LMG hehe.

still, a 308 lapua bullet-hose would be funny stuff,

and would rival skibada's 50cal for fun.

-----

for that, it would require a change to the receiver look,

perhaps a heavy-duty 'external case deflector'

a coathanger-wire 'basket' tac welded to picatinny or drilled through the stock etc.

I finished the normals and speculars tonight (specular will likely need adjustment, I think it may be too shiny) and began porting the meshes into nifskope to get them game ready. Need to make material files. Will test by replacing the mesh references for the handmade rifle in the CK. If all that goes well I can start making new CK references and get it in on its own. Then I have to look over the LL injection scripts and figure out how to do that.

Hoping to get the basic in-game testing done this weekend.

Looking forward to the release.

Maybe it's the angle, I can't tell from the pictures, but it looks like the muzzle is just a barrel extension. Pure compensators are top open or have slots on the 12'o clock to compensate muzzle climb.

To expand on that, muzzle brakes have large straight edged openings on the sides and flash hiders are either prongs or have slits all around. And then you have all the in-betweener hybrids, of course.

Muzzles are fun to model and easy to make. I hope to see more options down the line.

It technically is a barrel extension, just to make things look less plain, but still resemble the original. It will be in the compensator category for attachment purposes since true compensators/flash hiders/muzzle brakes will take its position when I get them in.

score!

shovel-stock, very nice.

outstanding work JKRuseZeroFive-Er.

I hope there'll be an "all black" variant,

to go with this 'pristine' variant.

This is just a swap of the barrel and receiver on the Handmade Rifle to see how my meshes are working in the game. This looks much more pristine than it should because I overdid it on the specular maps, and made it way too shiny. I'll be revisiting those and trying to make it more gunmetal.

Oh god what did you make.
Jokes aside, how are you doing your normals? Baking off a high poly?

I use GIMP with the .dds plugins for all textures. For normals I just use the built-in generator after making the base textures. I sometimes have to do it by section to get varying degrees of 3d-ness, but it generally works okay.
