...If you accidentally erase your save file

Hi, I'm gonna make this quick.

Just moments I was deleting some old save files because I had too many... but, accidentally i deleted my latest save file. So I googled around to see if anyone else had done this. They had... but in all the posts that I saw, they said that the file was lost and there was no way to recover it. I lost hope

Then I remembered I had a similar situation with another game and also remembered how I restored the files. There is a program called EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, and as the name suggests, is used to recover lost data. It's really easy to use, you just need to select the specific folder where the SSE saves are (by default: C:\Users\Usuario\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Saves) and just let it scan until you see the deleted save files (sort by Date modified to find it more easily) and presto! There it is... recover succesfull. Hope it helps

Bye

I used to do the odd job for a computer shop, among others the retrieval of data from crashed drives and/or from formatted drives and other data carriers either formatted in FAT or NTFS. I used a licensed GetDataBack. It scans the complete data carrier and is able to see whatever has been installed since first use of the drive and is capable of retrieving 90% to 100% of recently erased files and 100% from crashed drives as long as the data carriers are being recognised by the OS and you can get the disc to spin...

Some 15 or so years ago I also deleted my current save from a game by accident and tried to unearth it with one of those recovery tools. But while the program showed lots of files all across the folder structure, not a single file appeared in the savegame folder. My guess at that time was, that there must be a difference in the deleting process done by either the OS or the game itself. In my case, I erased the files from within the game.

What do you think, does it matter HOW you delete the savegame?

Nope. Every single piece of data, no matter how it was installed and deleted, needs to be physically written onto the data carrier and always leaves traces. In the case of GetDataBack, the latter does a scan of the entire data carrier and then presents you with the complete structure tree of that data carrier. All you need to do is scroll through the different folders to find what you're after and give the order to retrieve the data. The interface is pretty intuitive and doesn't leave anything to wild guessing.

The free edition of GetDataBack will let you perform a scan and will show you the stucture and what can be retrieved, but the retrieval itself needs a licensed copy.

Well, I scanned my failed SanDisk 256GB SD card with EaseUS 5.8 a few days ago. It scanned more than an hour but none of my lost data found. Then I saw iBoysoft Data Recovery throughout other forums there are users recommending it. So I thought I'd give it a try, attempted to download the free version from the developer website. Ran its scan and it was very fast. Although the software ignored the directory structure, it did a good job of finding my lost files. The free iBoysoft Data Recovery has a 1GB limit. If it can recover the directory structure, I'm willing to buy the full product. https://iboysoft.com/data-recovery/recover-deleted-files.html

Nothing is ever 'deleted' Data is only lost if its overwritten. So any recovery software should find it, hopefully intacted. Sometimes their partially overwritten.
