Just recently purchased DAI: Game of the Year Edition, so the DLC is present. I did this via Origins, okay great, so I downloaded NNM (newly built computer so I have to get everything back on it) and it does it's thing and scans. But it just will not recognize DAI. I tried to help it by manually locating the file, but it still does not want to take it. This is all being run on Windows 10. I have not modded for DAI before but I have for Skyrim; I am no pro but I am familiar enough.

Does anyone have an experience with this issue? Any advice as to get it to find the game will be greatly appreciated!

I was doing some research and was brought to info regarding DAModding and have been having issues opening this up as well. But that is a separate issue I believe.

Thanks!

Is your question about Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age: Inquisition? (You wrote 'DAI', but posted in the DAO area...)

If it is the latter, you can't use NMM to mod DAI; it is not a supported game due to the 'merged patch' method of 'hacking' the modded content into the game.

Rather, you need DAI Tool Suite Loader/DAIMod Manager... see the sidebar links on this site for info on downloading (and tutorials on how to use) the utilities. (And hopefully one of the site moderators will move your query to the correct forum area, for there are probably DAI mod users who can offer more assistance and advice there...)

And if it is the former, I can't offer any advice or suggestions... I've never used NMM to mod DAO (or any game, for that matter). Sorry.

As tsm said, NMM can only handle mods for the games that appear in its list when you "Scan for new games". It was originally designed for TES game mods, and the capability to handle a few others was added early. But no additional games (e.g. any that use the Frostbite engine) are supported.

Plus, NMM never could handle several types of Dragon Age mods successfully (e.g. it has no idea what to do with .override files.) Better to learn to install and mange your DA mods manually anyway. It's not that hard, and gives a lot more control. Especially when things go wrong!

That's my question exactly. How do we manually install mods for DAO - Game of the Year Edition - Steam? NMM found DAO, however the mods aren't making it into the game.

As Thandal mentions, some mods (ex., .override packages, archives which contain either/or options) CAN'T be installed with NMM. Others (cosmetic mods for the character creator, for example) require additional steps to work.

So it really depends on what kind of mod you are installing - most modders provide some guidelines for installation, whether in a ReadMe-type document or in the mod description - but in short:

  • Manual overrides (usually folders with loose files) are placed in Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override.
  • DAzip packaged mods (archives with a '.dazip' extension) are installed via a utility, like the native native DAUpdater.exe or DAO-Modmanager.
  • .override packages (archives with a '.override' extension, often used for configurable mods) must be installed with DAO-Modmanager.

Additionally, there are a few popular mods which have totally unique installation requirements, whether it be running a proprietary EXE installer or manually placing files in unusual locations... again, reviewing the aforementioned ReadMe or mod description page is critical.

Some more detailed information on the types of mods and installing them can be found here.

Some Steam-specific info is here.

And you should also become familiar with the information in this guide -> Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies and this one -> Installing cosmetic mods for Dragon Age.

And after that, if you still have questions, you will probably get more/better help by starting another thread, specific to your issues (and including a list of the problematic mods!), rather than piggy-backing off of a thread about what might be an entirely different game (DAI vs DAO).

Thank you all for your answers, this is actually very help full.

theskymoves I was referring to Inquisition, not realizing I was in the wrong area for the forum, which, my apologies for that.

But I think I understand now as far as modding the research I need to do now.

I am now wondering when I run NMM and it scans for the games I have why Inquisition doesn't come up at all, but it sounds like they just aren't compatible. And that in itself answers that conundrum.
