So, I have Skyrim Special Edition through steam. A while back I downloaded the Skyrim Script Extender through the steam client and the files went to my Skyrim folder, not my Skyrim Special Edition folder. I never used SKSE because I didn't have any mods that required it. Now I do, and I tried to launch SKSE through steam and it kept re-directing me to the Skyrim page (NOT Skyrim Special Edition). It says SKSE is in my library, but again, It wont launch from there. I tried moving the SKSE files to my Skyrim Special Edition folder and again, it wont launch from there. I assume I must be missing a file somewhere but unfortunately I haven't found any way to RE-download SKSE and google has not helped me. The files i moved from my skyrim folder to my skyrim special edition folder are: skse_1_9_32.dll, skse_loader, skse_steam_boot, skse_steam_loader.dll.

Also, I downloaded a launcher mod for SKSE here on Nexus and it launched the game but I got a popup from SKY UI that said SKSE was NOT installed- if that helps.

Any assistance in either finding a way to re-install SKSE or which- if any files- i'm missing would be much appreciated!

The SKSE and SKSE64 are two different animals as are Skyrim and Skyrim SE, since Skyrim is 32-bits and Skyrim SE is 64-bits. SKSE won't work on SSE for that reason.

Throw out every file you copied from Skyrim to SSE because they can never work.

To get the correct script extender, get SKSE64 from SilverLock itself and install manually by unpacking the 7z file and drag 'n' dropping the contents into your SSE main install directory (where the Data folder and regular launch exes are situated). Then use the skse64_loader.exe to boot the game.

You also never ever launch SKSE through steam but you use the SKSE/SKSE64 launcher on your computer to boot the game, either through NMM (switch launcher in the box top left of the NMM interface) or from a quick-launch copy you added to your desktop or taskbar.

If you're running an older version of SSE, here's all the SKSE/SKSE64 releases from the developer's archive page. Those for SSE are sitting at the top.

Agreed !! The only problem I had was the in the beginning, it was asking me to run it as administrator ... I do have full administration rights in my PC so I decided to right click on the SKSE icon ( in my desktop ) and choose "run as administrator" and since then, I have not had any problem... however, I have not try to find out how can I fix that because anytime I play, I must do that otherwise, it won't launch.

Right-click the SKSE64 shortcut on your desktop and choose properties at the bottom of the context menu. In the properties menu, choose the Compatibility tab and on that tab, near the bottom, tick the box in front of Run this program as an administrator. Click OK. Done

  • 2 months later...

thank you, when i first installed it couple months ago i used the correct file, this time used the oldrim file. I removed (I think) all the matching files in the main dir. then installed the correct file. The files in the data folder and scripts, i installed the correct files but have no idea how to remove the ones from oldrim. When i start up i still get the error that I need to update SKSE to match the new version. I also ran the files check on steam it did find one corrupt file. Not sure what to do next

Do you have SKSE64 2.0.7? It was just updated about a week ago.

If you are placing the SKSE64 2.0.7 files in the correct place, which is your SSE folder where SkyrimSE.exe is, all you need to do is overwrite and replace when asked if you want to.

My Skyrim was running before replacing SKSE64 with 2.0.7 version, now it closes on launch.

I have the same issue, my skyrim was fine until I have to update my skse to 2.0.7 version, then the game crash immediately as soon as it launches
