Facegen data

Hi guys, got another question for you and hope for some help. Thanks in advance.

I have created a custom NPC with unique face morpths. When I was creating an archive in the CK it added some unknown types of files such as facegen meshes and textures for my NPC even though I never created any textures of meshes for him. I just copied some existing NPC and eddited by adjusting different face settings. So my question is whether it's normal or nor and are these files really necessary? They are quite heavy and the fact they were added is confusing.

Any time you make a unique NPC, it creates a unique set of facegen data for them, which you need in order for the face/appearance to be ... unique. For Oldrim, you had to manually export those files (CTRL F4 with the NPC highlighted IIRC ) Maybe the FO4 CK does it automatically now?

Hey Perraine, thank you very much for helping me again! For some reason I thought the CK would just save my face settings in value format and then the game would apply them to the npc. lol I see now that my understanding of the concept was wrong. And yes, the FO4 CK creates these files automatically and automatically adds them to the archive, you don't need to press anything. Though I have noticed that it doesn't automatically add animations , they must be added to the archive manually.

What? Use a letter and number co-ordinates and preset system, so that you could easily and simply re-create a characters face, and allow other people to just type in the same code in a popup box so they could use it too?

Pfft, what sort of sorcery are you wanting? There is now way and game coul .....

You'll probably notice with custom NPC mods, that there are usually several files under "actors/character", those are the unique files.

Aha ... now you're straying into dangerous territory, because one has to ask, why wasn't the functionality of F4SE built directly into the shipped game? Which would allow for all the functionality of Looks Menu which includes saving preset Facegen Data. :D
