They awoke, as 13 upgraded-augmented teenadults, with 13 special living companions, 13 special robotic companions and 13 special exotic companions.

They awoke in survival fatigues, boots, webbing, backpacks and other gear.

They awoke with survival weapons, tools, and other devices.

They awoke in a big glowcavern (glowcrystal lit-warmed cavern) with tunnel entrances, a small river flowing through it, ugly gnarled thornplants and a big square powerdoor of what appeared to be heavy armour metal. There was an electronic terminal next to it complete with a green 2Dscreen that showed the VaultTech logo.

The 13 3Dcomputer game players knew very well that they were in a gameworld made real but this understanding did not come just from the information on the big powerdoor. No, they 'just knew it was true'! Except was it the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Brunette Sandy frowned. "DemiVault101D must be the outermost demivault of TechVault101 as in the game." She was using her pipgirl to do a radiation level reading. "Unless it has been changed through modding. I do not remember seeing a powerdoor entrance like this in the original 3Dmap of TechVault101."

Demivaults were outermost outposts of vaults, being detached from the main techvaults. Semivaults were attached to the outer hulls of techvaults while subvaults were inside techvaults, making up most of the techvaults.

Brunette Benjamin, also eurowhite, shook his head. "Unless it is some kind of trick, a booby-trap of some kind. We should be very careful."

K9/3 scratched himself behind his left ear with his left paw. There was one prime chimpanzee, three dogs, three birds and three amphibious lizards.

The robots were all running scans, sensor sweeps and other checks-recordings on the surrounds. One was command, three were secondary and nine were foundational.

The last 13 were stored away in the 13 special boxpouches of the 13 and would not come out unless they were very much needed.

Blonde, brown skinned, Alisa carefully picked up some softly glowing, thin mushroom like glowshooms and put them into a sample bag. "Amazing to have such organisms being really alive. Anybody else going to get samples for scientific study and the gaining of XP (Experience Points)."

LZ/2 zipped low over the ground and paused to devour a very pale, translucent, cricket.

Alisa stood, stretched, and the hawk HW/1 landed to perch lightly on her right shoulder. She fondly nibbled the woman's nearest ear before looking around the glowcavern with her amazing eye sight.

The globe shaped robot, RB/11 floated past Tanya, a black haired redbrown woman, with the hawk HW/2 perched on top of it. The robots were designed to enable the hawks to do that. That hawk was also eyeballing the environment around them.

Brett, the young black man, spoke. "One backpack, two pairs of socks, two pairs of underpants, two shirts, two singlets or maybe bras, two sets of survival fatigues and so on. We are wearing much of that." He was examining his pipboy's colourful 3Dscreen.

Alisa spoke. "No bras, just all singlets. We have more equipment-supplies in our hidden MSI (Multiple Shared Inventory) but not much more so. We have data in our pipgirls-pipboys but even more in our MSD (Multiple Shared Databank). We have stored energies but even more in our MSE (Multiple Shared Ecore). Even have other items stored in our MSG (Multiple Stored Gamebank)."

Who saw it first was not clear but there it was, glowing softly and translucent, a copperish sphere floating solidly, unmovingly, in the air in a distant corner of the glowcavern. Trouble was that between it, and the group, were a whole lot of thickly clumped thorntrees and other types of thornplants. One of the thirteen humans would have to touch it for it to be activated or one of the hawks could have done so very easily.

Thornplant thorns were very hard, sharp and sometimes very long.

Getting through the thornplants was a tricky, slow, process not helped by the discovery of small, highly venomous, vipersnakes. Two humans, and two lizards along with two robots made their way carefully to the small clearing. Once at the edge of the clearing, having avoided any injuries or damage, the group paused. The open ground looked harmless enough but that didn't mean anything by itself.

Casper, the young woman, threw a small unripe thornfruit onto the ground. There was an explosion of dirt and up rose a large radserpent. The oversized snake creature struck out at them and then dropped, stundarted, to the ground. Soon it was gone, with a soft sparkling shimmer, into the MSI's live storage section. Soon they found some baby radserpents, after scanning-sensoring, that soon joined their mother.

Roger touched the crystal sphere and it vanished with a soft sparkling shimmer. Now all Gamepoints were being regenerated at a small increased rate. They game access, for three at a time, to the MSH (Multiple Shared Homebase); one human, one animal and one robot were sent there at once to the 10mx10mx10m cubechamber divided into two sublevels and with nine alcoves, three antechambers and one offchamber.

So a dozen humans, a dozen animals and a dozen robots remained behind.

It was time to decide where to go next.

They investigated the powerdoor, hacked into it the security network-system controlling it, opened large electromechanical locks and watched the big door slide sideways with a slight grinding noise and a louder humming one. The big airlock chamber was very lightly dusty with lockers, machinery merged partly into walls, control consoles, wall racks with bits of equipment and other stuff.

Closing the powerdoor behind themselves, they carefully investigated everything and took a few useful items, having them placed into the MSI. They drank pristine water from a dispenser with single use cups that, in theory, would be recycled.

Beyond the inner powerdoor was a secondary utility-tunnel that they turned left to follow, moving very quietly as they could, there being three dozens of them. That the robots all floated, lifted by quite fanjets, helped. They reached a junction with the main tunnel going ahead and one shooting off at right angles.

They turned to go deeper into the demivault finding that some areas were only dimly lit with emergency fluroflats. Clearly DemiVault101D was slowly decaying. There were no visible attempts to change things for the better, not even the activity of basic remoterobots.

They heard the scuttling noise before the three medium sized adult radroaches came into view at the end of the tunnel, being T junction. The radroaches shot away in fear, clearly indicating they they were not into making suicidal attacks against well armed humans or robots or just as dangerous animals.

Alisa spoke. "We are not alone... somehow I just know it."

Then came the muffled sound of music. Then they were tracking it down, moving carefully along a utility-corridor until they came to a standard sized powerdoor. The music was coming through that, being muffled, but easily picked up by the enhanced hearing.

Alisa carefully opened the slidedoor.

The two human scientists were busy concentrating on an experiment, with a big arrangement of transparent tubes, beakers, and other equipment. They did not notice the newcomers pan out across much of the chamber, looking out over benches, bookcases, lockers and machines. One man had brown skin and dark hair while the other had eurowhite skin and was a brunette.

The dark skinned one gave a start and then spoke. "James, I think we have company."

The man turned and calmly studied the newcomers. "Jonas, you would appear to be correct. May I be of assistance to you, people. As you see, we are not very well armed and are no threat to you. Nor do we have much that would likely interest you enough to steal."

Alisa smiled through her helmet visor. "You are undertaking intensive examining of genetic material with tech that lacks the sophistication and specialisation to easily do the task. Perhaps we have something that might interest you such as a gene-splicer, a gene-scope, a tissue-processor or something else of the ilk. We may look like survivalists but that does not mean we do not know the sciences. You are Professor James Anderson and you are Doctor Jonas Palmer."

James frowned. "How is it that you know about us?"

Alisa shook her head. "We can not answer that question because we do not know. We awoke in the glowcavern just outside the secondary entrance-exit that we came through from outside of the demivault. We suspect that our lack of memories, and knowledge, is not accident as what we do not possess we can not give away or have taken from us. Also our data is not totally reliable and is quite basic. For instance, James, we do not know where you were born though we know that you, Jonas, was born here in DemiVault101D. You, James, have a daughter named Jasmine and you, Jonas, have three children."

Jonas shook his head. "Not me though I am married."

Alisa frowned. "Spoilers, you will have three healthy children in future when fertility treatments are improved with our assistance. Of your wife, James, what do you know of her?"

James frowned. "That is a very personal question."

Alisa nodded. "Yes, but very important for the sake of many, including both you and your daughter."

James frowned some more. "Catherine died giving birth to Jasmine!"

Alisa gave James a puzzled look. Then she nodded and the expression of puzzlement left her. "Catherine did not die. The death was faked. She gave birth to two more girls being named Jade and Juniper. She left the secret, underground, research development complex in great stealth. We do not know why she, and others, conspired to do what they did except that she appeared to be on the run from some kind of secret, powerful, well resourced, faction."

James sighed. "I have long come to suspect that there was something suspicious about the way that Catherine supposedly died. When I did my own secret investigating, their were discrepancies in computer data and in witness reports. Also three people there, at the time of the birth, vanished two days later with out any legitimate explanation; they were never seen again, at least not by anybody I have had contact with in years or by myself. Have you had enough of dredging up my painful past?"

Alisa sighed right back. "I told you, what I did, to reassure you that Catherine ran because she did not want to put you or Jasmine in danger; she made sure you were given Jasmine to take care of as a gift of love. We do not choose the messages, we just pass them on as required to do so."

Jonas spoke. "In other words, James, don't shoot the messenger!"

The professor just nodded grimly but as if to himself only, to his own racing thoughts.

Alisa was in truth HM/1 as Benjamin was HM/2, Roger was HM/3, Casper was HM/4, Brett was HM/5, Sandy was HM/6, Tanya was HM/7, William was HM/8, Joseph was HM/9, Tandie was HM/10, Helen was HM/11, Arnold was HM/12 and Tessie was HM/13.

To better blend into human society, names were given to the animals. CP/1 was named Chimpie, K9/1 was Champ, K9/2 was Roverti, K9/3 was Sniffi, LZ/1 was Slitheri, LZ/2 was Trickiz, LZ/3 was Alsasi, HW/01 was Wingi, HW/2 was Beaki, HW/3 was Windwing. Three other living companions had not shown up in the open, yet, and had no names but did have codes that were EX/1, EX/2 and EX/3.

The robots remained as RB/1 to RB/13.

:psyduck: :psyduck:  1.6[7] :psyduck: :psyduck:

Professor James Anderson was very impressed with the way his project shot ahead with the addition of new equipment-supplies including special items. The problem was explaining how the project had shot ahead when he next spoke to HighOverseer Alphonse Almodovar of the Overseer Network that governed the demivault and, in theory, other TechVaults.

Alisa had the solution; she would introduce her people to the HighOverseer and offer bribes to make it easier for the man to accept their coming into the techvault even if it was not part of the techvault proper.

James frowned. "He will be very pleased that a solution to the declining fertility rate of vaultfolk has been found though it is not a total one."

Alisa picked up a test tube and examined the colour of the substance inside. "We are linked with a source of research work results. Extensive studies have been done of some genetic samples but they need more. Can we have some of your blood and sperm."

James shrugged. "Of course!"

Alisa smiled. "I will give you a hand!"

So she did, fairly quickly and efficiently. When both type samples were delivered, by vanishing, to the MSH, they continued research development work with the help of others.

Jonas had gone off to doing doctor work, which is what James himself did on a casual part-time basis to back up Jonas and the five other doctors.

James spoke. "We call it the Isolation Illness and we do not know what causes it despite extensive efforts to find out what is behind it. Officially there are 13,500 plus humans along with other lifeforms including humanoids. 234 vault-citizens are in statuscapsules and we are running out of statuscapsules. Of those 211 have the mystery illness that appears to be both psychological and physiological in nature."

Alisa went over a thick dossier on the Isolation Illness. She did so with amazing speed and passed back the folder, of hard print-out sheets, back. "I have both deep-studied and total-recorded that data. I am deeply concerned at the findings but need some samples for send to that other place, urgently. What infestations are troublesome in the demivault?"

James responded. "Radroaches, radrats, radmice, mice, rats, roaches, spiders, thankfully not radspiders of the kind I have encountered when out in the Wastelands. There have been some other critters but no big infestations as such, such as small, odd, glowing back fleas, beetles eating the hydroponic crops and..."

Alisa frowned. "I need some of those fleas, both dead and alive, as soon as possible. Have you ever heard of the VaultTech Experiments that were actually carried out by SciTech in the guise of being VaultTech people and working projects inside some TechVaults."

James frowned hard. "I have heard of stories passed word of mouth across the DCWastelands that speak of experiments being carried out on some vaultfolk populations who falsely believed that were normal vault citizens. An experiment supposedly carried out here in TechVault101 was about deliberate isolation but surely that would be done in the main TechVault101."

Alisa nodded. "Perhaps there is more to the project than just physical isolation and there is more than one experiment taking place. Considering the slow-steady breakdown of the demivault, what if something was released but not intentionally so. Or this may just be an experiment area!"

James was understandably angry. "This demivault is strangely large for a demivault and is very complicated in layout in some areas, almost as if designed to conceal things from those living in the demivault. The Overseers are extremely reluctant to speak of such matters, even denying the existence of any isolation experiments. Perhaps they are frightened of something despite the extensive security network-systems and their security guards, troopers, robots and androids. The network-systems run a good deal but the turrets, remoterobots and other tricks are what one has to look out for. There are both secret and open 3Dcameras, sensors, scanners, infrared beams and pressure plates."

Alisa nodded. "What of the live, and dead, fleas?"

James answered. "The SRD Overseer's laboratories have both but they are heavily guarded. I suggest that a hunt is a better solution."

The other nodded. "So it will be done by some of my people."

:teehee: :turned:  1.8[8] :turned: :teehee:

Humans, animals and robots switched to-from the MSH where time passed two time faster than it did outside of it. That meant much more could be done but living organisms had to be careful to keep up, relatively speaking, with sleep, eating, drinking of water and just resting the mind-body-spirit.

Three humans, three animals and three robots went with James' daughter, Jasmine, along with her friends TechiJoe, SparkFred, DizzyFred, Sangalang, Dogmeat and the StephSisters. Sangalang was a chimpman animan subadult. Jasmine was human as was TechiJoe and the two StephSisters. SparkFred, and DizzyFred, were both claptrap type robots whose origins were a mystery as were those of other claptraps in the demivault. Dogmeat was a large, beautiful, powerful female Alsation dog.

The Ariser humans carried pulsecarbines able to five kinds of pulsebullets of three different power-sizes. The solidstate weapons were quite versatile as they could be used as more than lethal weapons or even as more than weapons. With each pulsecarbine was a semiautomatic grenadeshell-grenaderocket launcher that could be loaded with up to three slim, caseless cartridge type, grenadeshells and-or grenaderockets. They had back up weapons of pulsepistols, longknives, knives, handgrenades and other items being mostly concealed.

Jasmine's people had only a mixture of lotech, and midtech, devices until they got given some hitech by the Arisers. Yet Jasmine still carried her moderate powered bolt-action rifle, as given to her as a 16th birthday gift by three people including her father. A hitech scope was added to it. The two StephSisters gained special arrows to use. TechiJoe had his lasercarbine given a hitech scope and a barrel augmentation. Sangalang had a special laser target device put on his powerful triple barrelled 10g shotgun. Dogmeat was given a special flat wide backbox complete with a low profile special turret. The two claptraps had some upgrading, augmenting and were given each two nonlethal weapons.

The body-armour, the arms, were mostly against bigger threats than the fleas but, thanks to Alisa's growing suspicions of the cause of the Isolation Illness which was not the fleas but what they carried; that is just as mosquitoes could carry the malaria virus.

Dogmeat lead, the cyborg-dog, led with enhanced-augmented senses further augmented by the new backbox-turret. Jasmine followed just behind him as did Alisa. They went through main hallways that were were well lit and then into some secondary ones that became brightly illuminated as they entered and staid so until they left that area. It was an electricity saving program activated by the presence of the right amount of life energies and-or by the right kinds of moving mass.

Jasmine had already made it clear that finding any of the 'glowing-fleas' was going to be difficult and it turned out as she predicted.

They gathered up cockroaches, and other very small critters, and they were sent to the MSH where they were put into status or otherwise utilised with out being killed.

The first radroach was very easily caught by Jasmine as it rushed up to her to get a snack before it was sent to the MSH. A deal was made that Jasmine would soon get to visit the MSH as part of a new alliance between the two groups because they were finding it remarkably easy to work together, to trust each other, to be loyal to each other.

There was something very 'special' about the 19 year old Jasmine.

 :ninja: :pirate: 1.9[9] :pirate: :ninja:

The Mysterious Stranger carefully examined a large, deep, clawed footprint pressed into hard clay earth with apparent ease. In the distance was the WashingtonDC Citydome, lightly cracked in some places but still standing strong. Semiruins lay inside the dome along with smaller areas of non ruins. The great domes had helped to protect areas from the insane devastation of the Three Doomsdays, of 2099AD, that had ended the 22 year long Doomswar that had begun in 2077AD. Out beyond the domes, in the Wastelands, destruction had been generally greater but also hit and miss in its nature with some areas seeming to have missed out on any damage.

Appearances could be deceptive!

The great monster, of a slaughterclaw, was about twice larger than the biggest of the deathclaws and yet it was just a subadult. It was incredibly powerful along with agile and fast for its size. It had great retractable claws and fangs along with thick armour of hard leathery skin.

It was dying with its guts partly ripped out by what ever it was that had picked it up and hurled it through the air at the distance of over 110 metres.

The Mysterious Stranger touched the great creature, it shimmered softly, and vanished away to where it would be healed and then set real into a special interactive realm based on the DCWastelands where it would live a slaughterclaw's idea of the good life. Already the slaughterclaw was being analysed in multiple ways and answers were being sought to what had attacked it and why.

The Mysterious Stranger was apparently a radhuman wearing tough Wastelander radhuman gear. Radhumans had fairly rough-tough skin but were not as the sexless, hulking, radmans or the more corpse like radghoulmans or radghouls or radghoulers or even radghoulermans. Radghoulers were more savage cousins of defensive-aggressive radghouls while radghoulermans were more savage cousins of radghoulmans.

He spoke to MissFortune, JackOman and MrWalker who were apparently a young radhuman woman wearing the same kind of gear as he was including backpacks. With them were nine other apparent radhumans that were also deceptive in their appearance and were dressed much the same as the others. They were the ZeroTriplets, the RetroTriplets and the SanzTriplets, that being three sets of triplets. They listened quietly but were not likely to reply.

The MS spoke with some obvious expression of wonder. "What could do that kind of damage to even a subadult slaughterclaw?"

MissFortune indicated the oddly disrupted ground in the distance. "Something came up fast, and powerful, from beneath the ground, taking that deadly super predator by surprise. I suspect that there may have been at least two other slaughterclaw subadults since they like to move in small packs."

The MS frowned. "Yes and one was pulled beneath the ground while one fled and one lay there dying. MrWalker, you and the ZeroTriplets go after the fleeing slaughterclaw and peacefully subdue it. The rest of you stay here."

The MS vanished with a soft shimmering almost as if he had never been there. Almost exactly a minute later he returned with a frown. "Fed upon leaving only a desiccated corpse devoid of liquefied flesh, blood, water and life energies; I teleported the remains to homebase. Its death was mercifully quick and painless. It was an alpha shadotentaclaw come up from the chaotic insanity of the Underworld. It was gone before I could even start to catch up to it, returning downwards as fast as it could which is extremely fast. Question, why would it come up here where such entities are far from comfortable; answer, it was sent up here as a puppet-follower. Question, who-what sent it up here; answer, there needs to be more data before there can be an authentic answer."

MrWalker, and the ZeroTriplets, returned with a massive, passive, slaughterclaw that was soon sent to be with its litter sibling in that other realm.

30 powerful, armoured, saddled radhorses appeared; 13 were saddlehorses, 13 packhorses and four spare steeds. There were four packcows, being big powerful, radcows with very big packs. The packcows carried more than the packhorses but were slower. Then there were three big radhounds, being extra big raddogs complete with armour. None of the animals were what they seemed to be.

As a trade caravan they were soon heading towards WashingtonDC and the citydome.

Jasmine frowned as she easily hacked a green, 2Dscreen, terminal. "These green 2Dscreens can cause stress to eyes if one overuses them though I have never had any problems with them. Good, the powerdoor is now opening."

The terminal was next to a powerdoor that slid open, to one side, with a soft humming noise. At once, through the open doorway, shot a big radroach and then another followed soon by two more. Soon a whole flood of radroaches, cockroaches, rats, radrats, spiders, and other critters were rushing through the doorway seemingly hell bent on escaping something very dangerous.

The swarm of glowing fleas drifted menacingly through the air.

Jasmine frowned. "Those glowing things are at least three times bigger than they were when first spotted and they are not fleas. I wonder what they are."

Alisa raised her pulsecarbine and started shooting heavy stun pulsebullets. "You speculate, we will shoot."

The Ariser humans there fired off a deadly, well aimed, barrage of energy pulses until the glowing, oversized, flea like things were either on the floor, semiconscious, or were fleeing much faster than they had been going before. They were soon collecting lots of live samples, doing so with great speed before any of them could become active.

Jasmine frowned. "A whole lot of critters got past us and the Overseers will not like that."

Alisa shrugged. "If we solve the Isolation Illness problem I think they might just overlook that. Still, we can always have a revolution and overthrow them."

Jasmine nodded. "That is not bad an idea!"

TechiJoe frowned. "The Overseers are aware that the demivault is decaying and the more than happens, the more they fear revolution of some kind, the more paranoid they become. I know this because I was pushed into spying on you, Jasmine. The Security Overseer himself threatened me with trumped up charges and a year as a convict in a chaingang. Having already gotten in trouble before, and having reached the age of 16, he made it clear he could get away with it despite our so called VCC (Vault Citizens Constitution) and the Constitutional Overseer. Except I have been feeding that monster, McDonald, false information but that can only succeed so far; he could go after my family.

TechiJoe looked concerned that Jasmine might be angry with him.

Jasmine smiled. "Well it about time that you owned up. I was wondering how to approach you on the subject. With the help of some others, I have already made plans for how you can both extend and improve on your flow of untruths by replacing the lies with a mixture of unimportant truths, misleading half truths and a very few down right falsehoods. Now, lets focus on doing something with these glowing flea like critters."
