What can I do to cripple the Black-Briar family?

Seriously, they are worse than Ulfric. I want to do as much harm to Maven as possible.

So far I robbed their house and meadery (over 180 bottles of Briar mead acquired in the process) and was presented with an opportunity to kill Sibbi right there in jail. The guard walks up to his now dead body, looks at him, sarcastically says "Damn shame", turns around and walks back where he was.

You can become the Listener of the DB and Grandmaster of the TG.

With you running both factions, it would take away two of her closest allies, even though story-wise, not much will have change. =\

I tried killing family members but the only one non essential beside Sibbi is the alchemist girl, who's also the only one that isn't a complete a$$.

I hope I can take out Hemming one day...

I know what you mean....I was trying everything I could to pick a fight with Maven and destroy her also, but then I bought the 'Skyrim Official Guide', looked her up, there is nothing you can do, I wasn't that happy considering the baiting we're given....Mauls warning, etc...So hopefully one of the talented story/quest modders is finding it irritating about Maven also....not just remove her's and Hemming's essential tags, but adds a small story/quest with reaction and dialog in taking her down, I know I would be very appreciative and put such a mod to good use.

You can basically do everything imaginable to completely destroy Maven except destroy Maven. It's mind-numbing when you think about all the things you could do.

Steal her prized breeding horse - check (eliminate 1 potential source of additional income)

Take over her honey supply - check (eliminate her primary source of income and livelyhood)

Become leader of the two most influential factions that back her - check (eliminate any serious "muscle" and influence)

Recover her quill of gemination - check (completely destroy her - and with all the resources at your disposal you'd figure finding and stealing the matching ink which would allow you to sign her name to any damning document you pleased would be a piece of cake)

But to destroy her that way means that you have to become as corrupt as she is. Not a very heroic solution to the problem. It would be nice to find good ways to thwart her, and the Silver Bloods too. It just galls me that two major cities are steeped in total corruption and you're helpless to do anything about it without resorting to the same kind of theft, bribery, and murder that we condemn them for practicing.

Well put it this way....who actually own's her "former" rival, and who bought out her supplier.... Her name starts with a K, and I don't think she likes Maven that much....

Which means by the end of the Theives guild Quests and the Dark Brotherhood, you've effectively crippled her if you don't like her...Her contacts that way are dried up, she no longer has either guild's Support...

Plus there are a dozen side things you do to her through side quests....There are actually very few people, in that game I don't like and Maven, who works with the Thalmor (whom I despise)...kind of rubbs the wrong way but not badly so...... I'd rather kill the ideot in Whiterun who keeps asking me if i've been to the cloud District.... >_<

Like my best friend say's I'd tell him "I am the Harbinger of the Companions, Archmage of the College of Winterhold, Listener of the Dark brotherhood, and Leader of the Theives guild. So shut it you pompus...." well you get my point.

Ulfric Stormcloak, I don't dislike...at least he didn't try to have me executed right at the beginning of the game....to me he's the lesser of two Weavils... Besides What do the old Grey beards say to you....that More or less you are the King of Skyrim, in all but name.... Besides to his speech he gives his minion in his castle I don't think was something he nessarilly said to inspire and so on...It sounded like Ulfric Beleaved what he said....

he may be a racist Pig, but he's way less of one then the one's everyone here should hate, the Thalmor...

If you are laying on PC, open console then type:

setessential 1336A 0 - to make Maven Black-Briar non essential (killable)

setessential 13362 0 - to make Hemming Black-Briar non essential (killable)

After that save the game in brand new slot an have fun ;). It is adviseble to have completed the main quest or end the rebelion befor you kill them.

That is one thing I hated about this game, you should be able to kill Maven and bring the whole family down in process. Hopefully in time a super mod will rise that allows this.

I detest the Black-Briar family (along with the Silverblood family). There are entire families in Skyrim I'd like to see eliminated, and these are two of them. Unfortunately, with Maven, you can't. Bethesda made her essential for a reason. There's a chance, depending upon how you handle a certain quest, that she can become Jarl of Riften. Killing her could seriously break the game.

That said, for those of us who aren't interested in preserving even the main quest (I don't much like the Blades, either), I'd love to see a mod that makes it possible to actually cripple Maven -- to put her on the streets begging for spare coins. All the "role-playing" stuff people have been suggesting don't really affect Maven at all. So you steal her prize horse. She's still rich. So you become head of the Thief's Guild and Dark Brotherhood. This doesn't affect her one iota in terms of what happens in the game. It's all empty promise, with no real effect.
