Charles17
Ok, I decided for the 15th time or so to start completely a completely fresh game. I uninstalled Skyrim entirely so nothing remained and then re-downloaded from Steam to my chosen location E\Games\Steam etc. Spent the next 3 days downloading the mods I wanted to try, different look and feel from previous game, verified compatibilities, added necessary patches, manually edited load order data in Loot, used tes5edit to check for major conflicts, used tesvedit merge plugins to check for esp errors, wrye bash to check for esp's with incorrect master loading data, tes5edit to sort masters, and wrye bash again to build bash patch. Tes5Merged patch contained no form data so was discarded. When I attempted to load a new game, the screen appeared but menu options never did. It froze up. After a couple of minutes windows shut it down. I deactivated the bash patch and reactivated all the mods it patched, tried to start a new game, and it took right off. Main menu was their, options as well. Actually played it long enough to set up my mcm's in-game, save cleanstart, then exit out. I tried to re-activate the bash patch and play, but it froze up again. So obviously there is something wrye bash is including in the patch that should not be in there. I just don't know what. I tried 4 different patches after that trying to narrow it down, top half of mergeable mods try 1, bottom half of mergeable mods try 2, top quarter 3rd try, bottom quarter 4th. All combinations failed. Building bash patches I'm familiar with, but adding and removing lvl list entries and such I'm not. According to Merge plugins, the following esp's have unfixable errors: UndergroundBathhouse.esmCutting Room Floor.esptpos_ultimate_esm.espCollegeof WinterholdImmersive.esp3DNPC.espInconsequential NPCs.espETaC - Complete.espObis.espTKAA.espSRX_ImperialFemaleFace.espPopulated Lands Roads Paths.espImmersive Wenches.espPopulated Cities Towns Villages.espMultiMarriage_JAMCE_HMA_PATCH.espImmersive Citizens -AI Overhaul.espEFFDialogue.espDynDOLOD.esp Tes5Edit will throw nonstop errors if you try to include tpos_ultimate_esm.esp into a Tes5Merged patch. I haven't left the starting cell given in the Alternate Start LAL mod, but I can get in the game. With the patch, the game won't load beyond the main menu image. I always create a merged and bashed patch for my playthroughs. Experience has taught me well to do so. Corrects a lot of issues. So, I would like any helpful advice on how to figure out why this is occurring.
Charles17
Solved....I hope. What I did, in case anyone needs troubleshooting assistance in the future, was create a bash patch without using the merge mods function. Unchecked the box saying "merge mods". Then I built a patch containing only leveled lists, tweak settings, stats, names, graphics, and cells. In this way I was able to determine if it was a mod or data from another source such as a master causing the issue. Without the mods being incorporated into the patch, the game started as it should have, so it was definitely a mod. I literally went 1 by 1 adding a mergeable mod, then rebuilding patch, try to start the game. Add 1 more, rebuild patch, try to start again...until it finally wouldn't start. When it wouldn't start again, I removed that identified mod from the patch and added the next one in the case more than 1 mod was at fault. In the end, it was only 1 mod....(size does matter.esp)...It is tagged as mergeable, but in my case it wasn't. Either it isn't intended to be merged, or something in my list is directly countering it's files. I have no idea how to find out for certain so updating this post with a definitive answer to that is unlikely. Thank you to anyone who had read this and was trying to help me find an answer. DarkRudra
You've already figured it out, but yeah, it's Size Does Matter.esp. It's a known bug between that mod and Wrye Bash 307 beta2. There's a beta3 pre-release available in the Posts tab of the Wrye Bash page that supposedly has the issue fixed, if you want to try that. Details about the cause are available over there too if you want to search through the posts. The short version is that Size Does Matter.esp was created entirely in TES5Edit, using a version of TES5Edit that doesn't check to make sure a certain record in the .esp correctly matches another record in it. Other mods created entirely in TES5Edit can have the same issue (loading the mod in the CK and saving it is supposed to fix the issue).
Pippboss
If its Size does matter, will that affect a bashed patch created for Nexus Skyrim overhaul. The mod is included. Not sure if it been fixed before he added it. I'm running that in my load order with a bashed patch (Which created and ran the game fine).
DarkRudra
I'd assume it is not affected, if your bashed patch was created with Wrye Bash 307 beta2. Given the size of the Overhaul, it was probably loaded and saved in the CK when making all those various mods work together.
Pippboss
Yea I'm not going to worry about it. On a lighter note Charles, I think you'll love TPOS, I certainly am on my other profile. Pitty TPOS and Nexus conflict that could have turned out to be the cheapest ESP setup with the greatest game impact in the history of Skyrim lol
ff7legend
Size Does Matter.esp wasn't saved in the CK properly, hence why the game gets stuck loading when merged into the Bashed Patch.esp using the newest version of Wrye Bash. To fix it, the plug-in (Size Does Matter.esp) needs to be loaded into the CK, then saved. I, myself, have stuck with the previous version of Wrye Bash since I don't think it's worth installing the CK just to load/save one stinking plug-in. After the nightmare I experienced a few years ago uninstalling the CK where not only was the CK uninstalled, but my entire Skyrim installation as well, the CK will never again see the light of day on my system. Zoar5
Same problem as headline. Played Skyrim last a a few weeks ago. Everything went fine. Have win7 64bit Version with all updates up today.Wanted to try out some other mods with my already very long modlist and decided three days ago to start anew with a freshly downloaded Skyrim from Steam with all DLC, Skyrim Legendary edition. Installed too:Wrye Bash 307 Beta2 - Standalone Executable-1840-307-beta2TES5Edit 3.2-25859-3-2skse_1_07_03 Run skse, Bethesa logo, dragon logo, main menu...Started Wrye Bash added Bashed Patch.esp rebuild...run skse, Bethesa logo, dragon logo, CTD Tried it with all available Wrye Bash Versions from 304.4 on, first via installer then via Standalone. Everytime the same result. Active Mod Files:• 00 Skyrim.esm• 01 Update.esm• 02 Dawnguard.esm• 03 HearthFires.esm• 04 Dragonborn.esm• 05 Bashed Patch, 0.esp I even thought something went wrong with the download deleted everything and downloaded Skyrim from Steam again. Nothing! The only other problem I encountered right before I installed the new Skyrim were with Loot. Suddenly I could not longer download the masterlist.Turned out it had something to do with an windows update. It was solved via an "easy fix" from Microsoft. Loot works now fine.f Unfortunately I have not enough knowledge to investigate a possible problem with Wrye Bash and win7.Also it could not be related at all..... I think I am going nuts! Anybody any idea?
Charles17
If all you have are the dlc's, there is no need for a bashed patch. You say that Loot works fine now. Does that mean everything is fine, or is there still a problem? I use NMM for mod installation, tes5edit for cleaning, merged patch, advanced sorting of load order as well as fine tuning my bashed patch, and wrye bash for merge mods and mainly leveled lists.
